Indeed a very sad and regrettable incident, however I suppose it could have been far worse in casualty terms,so possibly quite a lucky escape for many.

Not very far from me at all. Swmbo says that the a30 is a nightmare in that area.  best to avoid.

Too early to speculate but possible brake failure :-\ Or reverse thruster failure :-\

Just such a shame

Must have missed this on my way out of Fleet. No problems at all. :(

Doesn't look from the aerial pictures that it overran the runway. More likely stalled executing a take-off / go-around. :'(

Hmm. Eye witness accounts suggest it landed with a lot of energy, well down the runway, overshot into a grass bank and flipped over the hedge into the car park, hence very little evidence of a debris trail from the runway end.

Yep he certainly was. He came a very long way (in completely the worst possible direction) since he was a star struck fan wandering around the Williams pit garage in the early 80,s
His family business was one of the team sponsors at the time.
Alan Jones said after 9/11 "If I had known how the little bastard was going to turn out I would have run him over in the pit lane".
Its hard to work out how someone can transform from a typical rich kid F1 fan, to what he became.
Im not really seriously suggesting a conspiracy theory. Just mentioning the possibility as stranger things have happened.  ;)
