Tata due for MOT on 12th February.
« on: 28 January 2020, 16:28:01 »

Should pass without any problems. :)

They are letting me have a 24 hour test drive in an I-Pace.

Should be interesting. Not expecting much in the way of excitement or performance from a milk float though. :-\

Depends what you call performance. If it's just acceleration, I think you may be surprised.

I think it has similar accelerative urge to a Toyota 'pious' or Datsun Leaf, rather than a Tesla.

Just had a Google. Nice looking car.

It knows where the biscuit tin is kept though. 2200 KG so well into 'fat bastard'

According to JLR, 0-60 can be had in 4.5 seconds.

Acceleration 0-60mph (seconds)   4.5
Acceleration 0-100km/h (seconds)   4.8
Top speed (mph)   124
Top speed (km/h)   200
WLTP Range - TEL* miles (km)   292 (470)
WLTP Range - TEH* miles (km)   258 (415)
WLTP Consumption - TEL* kWh/100miles (kWh/100km)   35.4 (22.0)
WLTP Consumption - TEH* kWh/100miles (kWh/100km)   39.9 (24.8)
CO₂ (g/km)   0

Quicker than I thought.  Four wheel drive and instant torque will help the zero to sixty time. As speed rises 'leccy cars' start to slow.

My car takes four and a bit to reach sixty but it has problems with traction. Once hooked up it is properly quick with the remap. :y

Yours is a planet killer, though. I reckon, given the condition of most uk roads, the ipace would be quicker in day to day use. When I say day to day use, neither car can be driven to anywhere near it's full potential. It's just numbers on a piece of paper/computer screen.

The iPace will surprise you, they launch like a scolded cat and overtaking is an absolute breeze with massive torque instantly available.

Handling is actually surprisingly good to, given its low centre of gravity.

They are good to the point where my petrol head son is already asking when I am getting one again (and that's even with a full fat V8 F-Type on the fleet)

Possibly, the range and charging challenges are an issue for many with all EVs, but launch is like a full on catapult rollercoaster off the line

Just an idle thought.  When most cars are Electric, will “ petrol heads” be known as electric heads? Doesnt have the ring ! Similarly pistonheads, will that be windings heads ?

The words Instant or instantly is much used when talking about electric cars.  'Instant torque' makes the car very fast in the real world

Even the fastest double clutch kickdown on a normal auto is far from instant.

Can't think of anything good to say about electric cars they just don't do it for me no matter how fast they are.

This is very much my experience. Despite it being a fat b@stard with a paltry 138ps, my milk float has the same 0-30mph time as the golf GTI.

Once the GTI hooks up of course it murders it's fat sibling, but I can only imagine that the 400 odd bhp and electric torque delivery of the i-pace makes it incredibly rapid off the line.

That plus 4wd would probably make it faster than the xfr at road legal speeds I would guess.

XFR with Viezu remap..........570 BHP....530 ft lb......1880 KG......2WD.

I-Pace milk float..................400 BHP.....530 ft lb......2200 KG.....4WD.

The petrol car will leave it for dead 'once traction is found' :y

Yes, but I mentioned earlier day to day driving. By the time the XFR found traction, you would be exceeding the NSL.

I don't think speed limits apply to me.
