Mine has bubbled too, I will be using primer, followed by a black paint with a semi-sheen, OR matt, then polish.

use etch primer on alloy frame-remove old paint first though-could react.

Red Oxide is my favourite, good enough for the Forth bridge.

:y I used an aerosol of black Smoothrite (Hammerite with a smooth finish) one. A good rub down with fine wire wool first and then a good cleaning off was the only preparation needed. With Hammerite or Smoothrite you do not need a primer, they are self priming.
Hammerite or Smoothrite both need a special thinners and nothing else will do.
Best of all....Hammerite or Smoothrite will NOT react if put on top of any other paint type.
The shine is fantastic too!  :y

Nice one .. when would you like to do mine ??   :)

Wore my thumb down rubbing all the loose paint off, over 50% came off, then another hour (with glove on) getting rid of the "lumpy" oxidation.

Will take at least a month for my thumb to heal.  :o ::)
