Omega General Help / High RPM sound
« on: 01 March 2019, 08:12:10 »
Hello,

3.0 litre Omega has developed this metallic rattling noice above 5000rpms. Oil changed at every 5 000-10 000km or after one year. 262 000km driven. Head gaskets changed at 220 000km and the heads were cleaned but not lifters. Lifters doesn't rattle even when started from -20degrees. Gearbox is fine and she has all the power she ever got.

Lifters or bearings or something else?

In two months it has been 4 years since last cambelt change, and at the moment 42 000 km with that belt, so there is a service coming anyway.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Christmas tree lights
« on: 18 December 2018, 10:53:24 »
Hey,

it seems that my Omega likes Christmas a bit too much  :-\

Month ago started to notice the alternator light illuminating very dimly, voltage 14,4.
Week ago started to notice the hazard flash button started to blink with the indicator, voltage 14,2.
Now today seat heater, rear window heater and that red light(alarm button) started to illuminate dimly too, voltage 14.

My local battery seller can order me 100A or 120A alternator and told to check which one is it (I would need to take it to hand before seeing which one is it....), is there possibility that the alternator can be either one? I believe it is 120A?

And also could the problem be elsewhere?

Car is 1999, X30XE.

General Car Chat / Strange Insignia service stamp
« on: 13 December 2018, 17:16:07 »
Hey this is from Insignia service book, anyone got idea what has been done at this point? In the bottom it says "Motortausch dich... " or so.
Could it mean that the engine has been swapped?

Engine is A20NHT.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Window switch Pre-Facelift
« on: 01 December 2018, 19:36:33 »
Hey,

I'm frustrated.

The driver side window switch is very clunky and won't work sometimes.
So anyone ever cleaned the window switch on pre-facelift?
First of all it won't come apart easily, I'm thinking of breaking some of the tips holding the switch together..... but if someone would have experience of this piece of german engineering?  ::)

Omega General Help / High revs at cold start
« on: 12 October 2018, 06:27:27 »
Hey,

I've been postponing this question a bit but now it's the time to ask it  :)

Car -99 automatic X30XE

I changed my air filter to K&N filter 2 years ago and after that the engine revs anything between 2000-3000rpm depending on temperature when starting it cold.
The K&N filter is similar to the original filter so no modifications have been made. Only that the K&N filter might have better air flow.

In time of 2 years the plenum and other intake parts has been uninstalled many times so I think there isn't any leaks in intake parts as this has been ever since the air filter change.

I'm not even scared of the 2000 but the 3000 is too much? The rpms drop down to ~1100 after 2-3secs and then after 30-60sec to 800 and when fully warmed 450-500. Before the filter change rpms started from 1200-1500.

Omega General Help / Understeer
« on: 09 July 2018, 08:02:05 »
Hellou, how to kill understeer?

Last winter I changed new Bilstein B8 shocks on front, LSD diff, front wishbone bushes and rear subframe(only the big bushes) bushes to poly bushes.

And now as the summer came the car feels much better but there also came this massive understeering....

Also the car has Stock springs front and back and also stock rear air shocks.

Omega General Help / Left on road MAF?
« on: 04 February 2018, 09:45:42 »
Hey,

-99 MV6 left me on road

Traction control was working as I was accelerating hard and then power went down and then engine shutdown.

Paperclip gave
73   Mass Air Flow Sensor Voltage Low
74   Mass Air Flow Sensor Voltage High

Is this clear MAF case?

Engine is running roughly and will eventually shutdown. Starts but will not run.

Also it's about -15-20degrees in Finland now and I filled her up 10min before incident. (Had to check from receipt if I put diesel into her but luckily no  :y )

Omega General Help / MV6 Front suspension top mount

Simply, Why the huge cap between top of strut and arch?

I got information that since A-omega the top mounts have been the same but can there be differences?

Omega General Help / AR35 oil sump/level plug size?
« on: 27 July 2017, 09:47:32 »
Hello,

I'm planning on checking autobox fluid and would be nice to get a new copper ring to the plug before, so does anyone have the size of it ?

Also is it possible to add the size of the copper ring to these guides as I think it would help in future?

How to check the auto box fluid level

Changing automatic transmission fluid (ATF) (AR35)

Thanks,
-Mika

Car -99, MV6, X30XE, climate control: Automatic

Is there some electrical resistant values for temperature sensors in the "bridge" and for sensors/switches at the radiator? To confirm they are working properly?

Side question:
The fan on the engine side is almost always on when climate control is set to cold(low is not needed)
The two fans on the front goes on at ~96-97 degree maybe not on full speed can't really tell as no experience of those going full speed.
Are the fans working correctly?

Omega General Help / How does HBV work V6
« on: 13 July 2017, 06:59:33 »
Hello,

I'm trying to understand the cooling system. X30XE.

There is a extra pump installed under coolant tank.
Hose coming in comes from HBV and also the same hose goes to back of the engine where the aluminum pipe goes.
Hose going out goes straight to heater.

The hose coming from heater goes to HBV.

There is then one hole in HBV left and it goes to coolant bridge.

So what the HBV really does? Which intake/out take it blocks/unblocks when vacuumed/not vacuumed?
And also what controls the vacuum?

Hey,

So the engine is rattling or I think it's water pump, what about you? You got 100% info?

Here is a video of the sound and this video isn't mine but sounds just like the same. (The X sound)

I hope the owner or anybody else doesn't mind me linking this video here.

Omega General Help / Automatic Gearbox AR35
« on: 29 August 2016, 06:50:29 »
Hello,

Today morning was cold and kinda wet so box couldn't find gears and swapped to neutral in drive... hope it's the switch. What do you think?

Going to start with the gear selector switch as the oils and filter has been changed 30 000km ago.

I've read this topic http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90673.0 couple tens of times and I'm still not sure what the alignment really does?

I have looked those pictures of it and others too from the google and came to a conclusion that the switch cannot be put wrong in there?? No need for alignments?

Just don't touch the gear selector in the car while the switch is off and after putting the switch back together see that the hole is somehow on right position and when inserting it won't go on wrong position, am I right?

General Car Chat / About me and little plan
« on: 12 July 2016, 13:37:38 »
Hellou,

firstly I would like to thank all for this great forum! It's been nice to post pictures and everything to you all! :)

I made this http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=116826.0 when I started to post in here and I thought it should be time to tell just something more of my hobby. Also I'm planning to do something great in which I probably need some help :y

So I've been racing now for couple years, actually this is now my fourth on going season with this Legends car.

2013 went practicing the new car as I had very little experience with a real car, go-kart is much more simple race car :)
2014 was a great year for me as I was third on my own competition serie.
2015.... car just wouldn't stay together and technical problems all year made my position on serie very bad....
2016 This year is just absolutely nice even if I wouldn't get race anymore but I have learned so much about the cars technical parts and everything. Couple weeks ago I was in Estonia, Pärnu racing and that's something for me because I wouldn't never imagined to be racing outside my country  :y

Future I think maybe some break because I want to put my money on something else because this hobby is taking my all money and the sponsors aren't so good. I will never stop racing!
Maybe the economics go better in some years and I get good sponsorships and get to race even harder! :)

Here's incar but not from my car.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zDdkSm4tUps

Google can also tell you more about it! :)

And the plan that I'm thinking, roadtrip or by plane to Germany, get to drive on nordschleife with fast car maybe borrow or lease or something or even by car and drive it back home....

I want you to tell me how should I make my trip to Germany any suggestions?

Is there anybody living near nordschleife? got a fast car? :)

Omega General Help / Omega's new feature
« on: 20 May 2016, 18:59:42 »
3.0 V6 MV6
~15 000km earlier done headgasket change and everything cleaned.

Have anyone ever experienced something like this??

Couple of tight turns to left with high revs and then flat out straight. Blue smoke cloud 2-3hundred meters like really very big cloud. Stopped for a look no noices but a little smoke.

Drove home just thinking about valve problems. After an hour at home I got an idea what happened and really got it right  ;D So now I've been driving on normal roads and only one morning after that incident came blue smoke on start but not anymore.

The oil accumulated on the right of the engine and as pressed flat straight it came up from the breather hose to the plenum and then down on pistons. This proven by that as I look trough throttle body there's a lot of oil...

Does anyone have some idea how to get rid of this omegas way of lubricating pistons?
