What was in the budget for you?
« on: 22 November 2017, 13:42:09 »

For me..no increase in diesel, no pay rise for the missus, a bit extra from the personal tax allowance increase next April.
Nothing for us to get excited about at all.

Similar.

I don't have to go cap in hand to the missus for 65p a week in diesel money, we'll benefit from the tax band shifts, and SWMBO keeps on benefiting from corporation tax drops.

I’m surprised there was nothing on student finance or car tax.

Increased road tax on older diesel cars from 2018?

More fun.

Only on new cars as I understand it, the First Year Rate will go up one band (costing the luckless new owner up to £500 more at the Main Stealer). Old relics such as mine are to be ignored I think.

Also, as predicted, diesel company car owners will take a nice big hit.

The actual wording from the Beeb:
Vehicle excise duty for diesel cars that do not meet latest standards to rise by one band in April 2018

Nothing wrong with a dull budget that costs you nothing.

Interesting, seems that there is some confusion as Auto Express thinks its only new cars:

http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/car-news/consumer-news/88361/tax-disc-changes-everything-you-need-to-know-about-uk-road-tax

Either way, for me it'll be at most £40/yr. or 0.1p/mile driven. If that's the worst a budget throws at me, I'm a happy camper!

You'd be pretty gutted if you'd just bought your first house in the last couple of weeks.  ::)

No increase in excise duty on wine  :y

I should hope so to. At £2.17 per bottle it's already one of the highest in the world. Ireland and one or two others are higher, but some European countries are Zero !

Other places report:

"New diesel cars will all rise one bracket up the vehicle excise duty system, hitting millions of car owners. The tax rise excludes all vehicles bigger than cars - including white vans - to protect small businesses"

If it's only on new cars I cant see it "hitting" any car owners who don't choose to be hit.

If they don't like it they can buy a proper car. ::)
