Well it's a very good point. I rang the other day for some prices for stuff like interior switches and a lot of them are discontinued 😢

I suppose really the only bits that will be available for a while longer are those[if any]that were used on other-possibly later-models.Isn't it some kind of rule that manufacturers have to maintain a parts supply for 10yrs after a car has left production? If so that time is now long past for the Omega.

Baza is spot on, yes. Obliged, but that's now well gone. Only chance for certain items is if it the same as on the later development of the V6 engine (on Signums/Vectra) and little wee screws/fastenings/clips etc that are also used on other models. The brake pad wear sensor bracket on inner wing is the same on Omega as Zafira, to give a sad, specific example.  :y

Sorry to be the cloud to your silver lining ;). Hopefully soon they'll get picked up for specialist/classic car parts suppliers. But I'm not holding my breath

The specialists get their stock of genuine NOS parts by being available when manufacturers decide to devalue and dispose of it. Often this involves loading the stuff into the van, rather than paying a storeman to dump it all in a skip. This is a very random process, and can result in the acquisition of stuff that you'll never sell. Anyone who ever went to RJ Grimes(Rootes/Chrysler etc) specialists will have seen this in action; for years there was a broken crate by the door full of new Talbot Samba headlights that must have numbered more than the remaining cars.

Don't forget there's a load of parts that they wouldn't have bothered keeping once production stopped as they usually outlasts the car and is never needed - there isn't, and never was, a complete stock of parts that you could build a new Omega from

Isn't it some kind of rule that manufacturers have to maintain a parts supply for 10yrs after a car has left production? If so that time is now long past for the Omega.

I wrote a letter to the CEO of VX many years ago whinging about the lack of supply of LC parts, and mentioned the 10 year rule. He replied (or one of his lackies) saying that the 10 year thing was a SMMT code of practice, and only covered major mechanicals and service parts. For other parts, such as trim, the SMMT code of practice was two years.

I did however get them to change one thing. I wanted 2 suspension washers. They were £12 each, and only sold in packs of 10. They had 376 in stock ????

The HBV's have been £15 for a couple of years now.  Around the same time, OOFer's seemed to have early life failures on them.

I do tend to keep a spare on in the garage, along with a few other common-ish failures.

Changed the HBV today. I don't remember doing one before. Not the nicest job I've ever done but went well. For anyone else doing this a can of spray grease makes everything slide together a piece of piss. Yes it smokes like a good un but that's ok.

Found on the old one a nice big crack round the side of the single pipe so hopefully that's that........

Evening guys. I hope you're all well. Quick question...did HBV on Saturday. Run car with cap off. Heaters working lovely. Got home (10 minute journey) coolant warning came on. No dramas. I assumed it would need that. Topped it up. Did half hour drive today. No warning light but I was doing some engine bay pottering and noticed it had dropped again (as said not enough to put light on) but is it likely it would need topping up twice after the HBV change?

In terms of how I bled it I ran it with cap off mainly idling but with a few bursts of throttle. heater on hot and blower fans off. All throughout squeezing ras hoses. Thoughts...

Cheers guys

If you can't see any leaks, top it up again and it should be ok. I had my water pump changed on my last petrol astra and I had to top it up twice, but by a lesser amount the second time.

Cheers STEMO. yeah can't see anything. But if there is one it has to be the HBV as it's the only thing I've disturbed. Hopefully it's just a bit of air working it's way out 👍👍👍

What you've described is how I sort the coolant level on mine.

It takes forever to warm up just idling with the bonnet open(and about a mile if I drive it, so there's nothing wrong with the cooling system), fondling the radiator hoses, so I:

Fill the bottle, and leave the engine running while I tidy up.

Check for leaks, and top up the bottle.

Screw the cap on, and go for a run with the heater on.

Top up the level the next time I use the car.
