Title: LPG queery
Post by: arthill on 12 November 2007, 19:33:23
Can someone tell me what the advantages of having car LPG`d are and what the cost is likely to be around on my 2.2cd, bearing in mind I only do around 5000 miles per year privately. :-?
Whether it would be worth considering either for my Omega or my Taxi (not Omega)a lot more miles.

For 5000 miles a year, the payback would take a long time - no immediate savings to be made

For a taxi, it could mean big savings - ask "taxi driver" :)

instant advantage is only paying half as much for fuel  :y

5000 miles a year may mean you take sone time to recoup the cost, average install cost is 1500/2000 fitted or 700/1000 DIY

hat make is the car? Some models, Ford, and (Japanese) need flashlube to preserve valves - GM engines are OK

as you asked about engine wear etc, running on lpg is supposed to be much better & you only need to get serviced every year & a half, instead of year, also it's transferable to a same cylindered car when you change, in my 2.6 engine i get 200 miles for £23 ish.

I know they're different sized tanks & it doesn't really have much relevance, but to fill the car with petrol is about £60, but as i run on lpg most of the time, it's nice to fill, then leave the petrol station having just handed over a £20 note & a bit of change.  http://images.omegaowners.com/forum/Templates/Forum/default/thumbsup.gif
Thumbs Up!

Upper cylinder and valve lube is not as good on LPG, oil satys cleaner though (still need to change it at the same intervals though)

I have heard this and also read a recommendation that a tank of petrol should be run through to provide lubrication for the valves.  Whether this is correct I am not sure, but it makes logical sense to me.

My first Omega, a 2.5 petrol ran on LPG and covered over 250,000 miles before I sold it and its still about now. It was the original engine as well :y
