Temp gauge is controlled by a small brass sensor screwed into the coolant bridge at the rear of the valley between cylinder heads, the wire is terminated with a female spade connector and can just fall off, if you remove the upper plenum access is gained to the rear of the valley and you will see the sensor,
if the single wire is attached then you need to ground the wire to anything metal preferably the body and see if the gauge goes up to the hot, if it does then the sensor is goosed.

Mot passed again, maintaining its record of having never failed its mot inspection. 19 years old and still going strong.
Advised that the nearside outer rear drive shaft boot is starting to show signs of age, but other than that nowt.
HAPPY DAYS. :y

As a driver for a honda dealership i drive the old fr-v regularly, i have to say that there is plenty of room in the front for 3 small to medium sized humans, but i bit cramped if any bigger, they are not the nicest drive in the honda range but do the job, ugly as sin in my eyes, and make sure it has a good service history as the vtec i engines are reliable but need regular oil changes.
