satalite telly gubbins
« on: 09 July 2014, 18:25:50 »

I have a Maxview twin lnb satalite set-up for my caravan. The twin co-ax cable goes from the twin lnb on the dish to two connectors on the back of the reciever.
What's the difference between this set up & a single lnb & reciever that only has a single cable? Would it work if just one cable was used?  :-\ I was looking at replacing our caravan telly and noticed that some have a built in Free-sat reciever as well as the Free-view reciever but they only have a single F connector. Could I use just one or the other co-ax cables from the twin lnb?

You only need one cable from the dish, presumably your set up at the moment, either you can record one channel and watch another or the receiver can do picture in picture or such for it warrant needing two cables  :y

Both the cables at the moment go into the back of the sat receiver. Maxview MXL020

Both? I am impressed, with our new TV it has built in freeview but I had to buy a 'box' to get freesat which is what we use....... ::) ::)

As Al says, 1 LNB, 1 Cable run per Box, if your Sat Rx Box has Record function whilst watching another channel then basically its 2 Boxes in one, so Twin LNB and 2 cable runs required. Most new installs now come with min Twin LNB as standard, so often makes sense, if the Installer can be arse'd, to run Twin Cable feeds.  ;)

Do you have two LNB's or a single LNB with two outputs?

Al hasnt posted on this thread  ::) ;D

Does it have a USB port? The newer version on the Maxview website does, for plugging a USB Hard disk in, so you can record.

But Marks post .... i hadnt read your original post that way, but it could be read as having two LNB's, with cable from each one ..... :-\

Post no7 on this Digital Spy Thread has the clearest explanation I have seen on the different types of LNB.

Each port is connected to an independent receiver in the same housing.

The LNBs with two horns allow reception from two separate satellites.

Search for monoblock LNB and DiSEqC for lots of confusing detail.

One horn &two connectors  :y

So you have a setup which allows two receivers to receive two different channels off a single dish/LNB unit.

On some setup the two receiver's are inside the same sat box and hence you can record a channel whilst watching a different one.  :y

Thanks. The receiver looks a bit basic for that  ;)
