Hi cam.in.head
His reply to my email, without him even seeing it was this. "I could charge you for that but can tell you for free that your transmission is slipping and needs an overhaul.
The fluid needs to be checked for antifreeze contamination in case the cooler is leaking in the radiator, in fact we recommend fitting a new radiator."
I have checked the coolant tank as radiator is sealed, the antifreeze is the correct colour without anything in it, as I looked online for what the coolant would be like if ATF was in it. If the box was slipping, wouldn't it be all the time and not intermittent? I haven't checked fluid level yet as unable to get a replacement washer for the plug. Vauxhall no longer sell it, some other members have said use a bit of thread tape or take the plug to a shop to find one. I don't want to take the plug out and then not be able to seal it upon putting it back in.
Hi Shackeng. The mileage is 110800 on the clock, before I got the car the box had recently had a filter and fluid change. I have the bill to show it was done and not hearsay.
I am going to be cleaning the Throttle body as another suggestion. I was able to take a quick look yesterday and the body is dirty inside, so have got the gasket coming and will be cleaning it, at least another thing to tick off the list. The annoying thing is that when it is working ok the box changes smoothly, no noises or anything. The problem is a intermittent one.
Thanks
Addy
