Car Parts, bits For Sale & Wanted / Re: Alternator Wanted Please
« on: 11 December 2011, 21:35:29 »
Not tested yet, I know the battery was replaced a week before I got the car, I will be testing it later in the week. I am only using the Omega for local runs at the moment as I have just got my hands on a 98 Saab 9-5 2.3 Turbo which is for my partner to use for work, but I have no need to go out until Thursday.

Car Parts, bits For Sale & Wanted / Alternator Wanted Please
« on: 11 December 2011, 01:14:40 »
Hi, I have a 2001 Omega Auto Saloon 2.2 Auto Petrol, and my alternator doesn't seem to be providing enough power for everything in the car, It has supposedly had a new battery a week before I got her, so am going straight in at the alternator.

Has anyone got one going fairly cheap please?

Thank you

Frontera's are RWD too, I have both a Frontera and an Omega, But there are loads of very cheap Omega's on Ebay, and you could always get the manual gearbox separately to the car and get an auto Omega for the engine. HTH. And good luck.

I used my aircon today, I will check my coolant in a minute.

Only just read all the replies  ;D

And I will try and reply to all comments in one reply.
So here goes.

Yes I have a new multimeter from Screwfix and no still not used it  ;D My mate used his own one instead.

Yes it has towbar electrics and on this occasion no it wasn't them at fault  ;D
We stripped them down and checked the connections.

However the original bulb holder was at fault, confirmed after fault was found and fixed, put the old bulb holder back on and it stopped working again.

After all the agro and me being stubborn and refusing to believe the relatively new bulb couldn't be at fault I took a drive down to GSF and bought one. Put it in, and hey presto, it works!

So if I had just stuck a new bulb in it after changing the bulb holder I would have found it was working!  ;D ;D :-[ :-[ :D :D ;D ::)

After squirting just one time on all the cars I have had that problem with in the past it stopped it up until after I got rid of the cars.

does that mean it started again as soon as you got rid of the cars  ;D ;D ;D

Haven't got a clue  ;D

The water colour and smell hasn't changed since I have had her, I have been under the car, in the engine bay etc... checked under the oil filler cap and the dipstick and no obvious signs of why the coolant level dropped. So I topped it up with a 50 50 mix of anti freeze that I had in the cupboard as I know it doesn't matter what I put in right now as I am planning a complete coolant change in a couple of weeks, but made sure the level was full according to the marker, I then took it for a 4 mile round trip and parked up when I got back and immediately popped the bonnet open and checked the coolant level and it was still where it was when I left. So am very very confused. I have checked the spark plugs and the holes when it was cold as well and nothing appeared to be out of the ordinary. I even checked my footwell in the car both sides and bone dry!

So fingers crossed about the air lock theory. All I can do is keep any eye on it.

Have you put "sold" on the advert?

All German fairly well known here. Although I believe there is a prefered eBay supplier for steering idler...?

It wasn't on an advert I placed, It was a reply I put to someone on a Wanted ad they had posted. But thought I would show this company as when I emailed them and asked them about delivery of the item, they said they had them available!

I bought mine through the guy on Ebay originally but he currently isn't listing any on Ebay that I could see.

Just hope this post helps people.

Omega General Help / Mysterious Water Leak on my 2.2
« on: 15 November 2011, 02:46:07 »
Yesterday I felt really stupid. But finally resolved my brake light fault which after the faulty bulb holder was replaced I assumed the bulb was ok, but as it turned out, the brake filament was in fact broken. So now new bulb in and all working,

However I got in my Omega at about 9pm and after the brake light check message went out, Coolant Level came up on the screen. So I immediately switched the engine off and opened the bonnet.

I checked the coolant level and found it was below half. But there is no obvious leaks, no patches on the path etc... The only thing I haven't checked is the oil cap to see if there is any chance of it being the head gasket.

This happened once before about 3 months ago but I topped the coolant up and never had the issue until now.

I am going to fully investigate tomorrow. But am very worried now.

Since I replied to a wanted post about a steering idler, I have been receiving a fair amount of emails about people who want the part. I don't mind receiving the messages but I am afraid it is sold.

However, I have tracked down a company who sell Original Equipment Lemforder Steering Idlers.

Here is a direct link.

I really hope this link helps.

P.S, I have never used that company so cannot vouch for them, but hope the link helps.

I would only do a cash on collection jobby and I do agree the guy comes across as evasive! I originally enquired about the rear lights thinking that they were fully tinted and then took a closer look and realized they aren't  and in my opinion look rubbish. But the guy wanted £75 for the set delivered, but I can't get hold of him since. But info handy to know on this thread as I have seen a fair few v6's being broken with nice exhausts fitted.

Thanks.

This is the link to the car with the exhaust I want to buy on it. But not sure if it is just the backbox on to standard pipes or a cat back system.

Omega General Help / Re: Suspension mystery noise
« on: 13 November 2011, 00:21:42 »
I haven't read all the replies just the first page lol, but I have got a strange knocking on my car, my friend and I spent and afternoon jiggling all the front and rear suspension components and came up with zilch, then driving my Omega to a garage to get my new Catalytic converter fitted my mate who was following behind me said my exhaust appeared to be moving a bit. So after getting my car back from the garage we got back under the car and and found that the rear rubbers aren't totally shot but stretched enough to cause the knocking. So is your exhaust secured properly to the car???

HTH
