Omega General Help / Re: Strange Auto Box behavior.
« on: 13 November 2011, 00:13:48 »
Have you cleaned the selector switch on your gearbox? My car is slightly sticky in 2nd gear, worse when cold but hit and miss when hot, perfect gear changes in S mode, but never paid any attention to what direction I turn. My mate and I changed the gearbox filter, fluid gaskets and thoroughly cleaned the sumps out and this made a hell of a difference and my gearbox ECU isn't updated, but never got round to cleaning the gear selector switch. If you haven't tried this and decide to try it, please let us know the outcome. Cheers. HTH  :)

The best thing in my opinion for the window squeeking long term is Sylicone Spray. After squirting just one time on all the cars I have had that problem with in the past it stopped it up until after I got rid of the cars.

As for the key, I would recommend either using Martin Imber or my local main dealer Vauxhall quoted me £40 programmed for just the remote part for a 3 button remote for my Omega. or if I wanted a complete key with programmed chip for immob providing you have the code with the history on a credit sized card my local dealer would do it all for £80.

Omega General Help / V6 and 2.2 16v Exhaust Compatibility Question.
« on: 12 November 2011, 23:30:35 »
I have come across this nice quad exit exhaust that is currently fitted to a 3.0V6 Facelift Omega Saloon, I was wondering if the the backbox would just bolt or fit straight on to my 2.2 16v Middle pipe? Or is there a lot of modifying needed to be done?
Cheers

Rear lights... Not my cup of tea but that doesn't matter ;) They don't seem too bad from the pictures (Light output point of view) and I've certainly seen worse on chavvy Saxo's ;D

But you've got a N/S Brake Lamp out :y :y

I know re: the brake light, it isn't a bulb but a wiring fault. I am going to trace that nasty little wire down and sort it  ;D

Exhaust now fixed, although had to pay a garage £35 to do it as the bolts were seized on. And have also flyeyed my rear lights now. Which come with a certificate showing they are 100% legal.

What my old cat looked like!

My car with the flyeyes on.

Picture above is the reflectors not the tail light bulbs.

That concludes my photo heavy update for now.

Omega General Help / Re: A question about standard window tints
« on: 30 October 2011, 00:41:26 »
Thanks, I think I will see if I can get my local tinting company to have a look. As I think on the Estates Limo tint or dark smoke tint for the rears look fab! But I think the saloons look a bit odd, which is why I was hoping to darken the tint slightly all the way round.

And I dissagree about tints not making a difference at night from the inside as I limo tinted my previous car Ford Galaxy on the rear 5 windows and as a result when I was reversing at night couldn't see a damn thing and when I was reversing my caravan I had to open the rear windows and bootlid to see the caravan go back!

The Omega in the OOF picture at the top left hand corner looks odd to me! But I don't know if that is just the quality of the picture maybe?

Omega General Help / A question about standard window tints
« on: 29 October 2011, 14:53:04 »
I was wondering what percentage the windows are tinted from the factory as I want to tint all the windows slightly darker without breaking the law. Cheers.

I have the 2001 CD Spec Saloon model.

Cheers

It wasn't me using them when they melted, it was my mate who was testing the battery on my Omega and while I was standing there the leads started to smoke. ODDLY out of habbit it went back in my tool box lol. I will have a look later and see what setting it was on as it hasn't been touched since.

I have now borrowed a good multi meter but will have to wait until the weekend until I can have a 2nd person with me to activate the brake lights to see what is what.

Thanks everyone, I did have a multi meter but it was a cheap HK ebay jobby and the wires melted on the prongs just from testing the car battery last time, so have placed an order with screw fix for a multi meter that I am collecting tomorrow. I would get it today but it wont be available for collection until tomorrow  :(

I will start with the multi meter test then take it from there.

My brain just aint in the mood for working lately. Simple things like testing with a multi meter should have been the first thing that I should have thought of. What is wrong with me  :( Apart from the fact I am Blonde  ;D

When I first got the Omega, the guy I got it from said it had an intermittent fault with the passenger side rear brake light which was a case of a dodgy connection and you had to jiggle it to get the brake light to work, But as a general rule I replace all rear bulbs as soon as I can after first getting a car, So I popped down to GSF in Hastings where I bought the new bulb, which of course didn't solve the problem, Luckily I am good friends with all the staff down there, they came out and fiddled with it, and in the end diagnosed the fault as being the bulb connectors not touching the bulb all the time, weird I know, but we got a pair of pliers while we were still at GSF and it resolved the issue straight away!

Then the car showed no signs of any problems from May 2011 until 3 weeks ago where it started to work on and off, and now it wont work at all but I have got side lights, I tried with a mate, swapping the bulbs over, still not resolved it but both filaments in both bulbs worked on the drivers side, so after lots of playing around my friend and I assumed it could only be 1 thing. The bulb holder!

So I bought a 2nd hand bulb holder from Omegaspares via ebay at a very reasonable price, It came in the post this morning, and it has not solved the problem.

Once my physio therapist has been I am going to try cutting the old plug off and fitting the one that came with the bulb holder and see if that works. But if it doesn't, please has anyone got any idea's?  ??? :( :-[

Cheers

I accidently came across another car with the exact spoiler I am after, it isn't the one in that link although I am considering that one for £50 odd quid.

The brand of the spoiler is steinmetz.

Anyone know where I can get one?

I have checked steinmetz.co.uk but they don't list any spoilers.

Cheers.

I haven't bothered to reply to the insults above as I read what was being written and wanted to get some proffesional MOT tester advice and Local police advice as well as taking my baby down to the VOSA centre in Hastings.

This is what I got told:

MOT man:

They are perfectly road legal and will pass an mot as the car is registered before March 2001.

Traffic Police:

Perfectly legal day and night and in there opinion do not cause any dazzling issues to oncoming drivers un like the fog lights if they were miss used. Luckily I do not miss use my fogs.

VOSA:

Because they are white and not too bright there are no legality issues on the road and I can not be fined or done in any way at all.

The DRL's I have fitted don't dazzle in the slightest. In sun light you can't really see they are on unless you look close but in dull weather they are brighter than sidelights but not any where near as bright as headlights.

DRL's don't change there brightness from factory fitting at all, This I checked with Citroen which is 2 doors up from me and Audi near my mum's. They may appear to change brightness to the un trained eye but this is just down to the brightness of the dipped beam lights and dependant on the level of natural light.

So in effect DRL's never known as DLR's!!! Have technically been named incorrectly as they are just purely safety lights.

In my experience since I have had them fitted, My car has been noticed more, especially from where I have to pull out into oncoming traffic to get off of my property and I have had less idiots swerving round me last minute at speed and more people slowing down and taking care to go round me safely or letting me out.

I am not going to sit here and type lots of insults as I am simply not that pathetic, but appreciate before anyone tries to put legal facts down that they should get the information correct first, As I have done.  :P

And the reason it is wired to the CD Player power loom is because it was easier to get to than the cigarette lighter loom that I was going to use and the only thing I knew would power down when the ignition is switched off and would power up when the ignition is switched on.

THE END!!!

I don't know why a certain few people get there knickers in a twist with in accurate information and find it really irritating that when they are proved to be in the wrong that they go for personal insults.

My threads are in NO WAY put on here to create these situations, so if you have nothing nice to say or nothing constructive to say. Then dangle berries to you!

NO NEED TO EDIT ADMIN as I used your replacement words instead  ;D

And no matter what nasty things are put on here, it will not stop me doing what I want to my car.  I only come asking for advice and help on how to do things, or find them. And if someone says to me it's not a good idea as it really will affect whatever on the car in a bad way then I wont do it.

But listen to this. And I hope this annoys those who hate me and my car. I am fitting DARK TINT FILM to the rear lights of my car which I have already checked the brightness for safety and have been told they are bright enough for the road even with sunlight on them legally.
So if you hit me up the back end in an accident I will simply tell you to go and get your eyes tested.

Have a nice evening everyone.

All the best.  :y :y :y
