E10 Petrol
« on: 28 August 2018, 21:03:05 »

Stumbled across this:

https://www.rac.co.uk/drive/advice/emissions/what-is-e10-fuel-and-how-could-it-affect-you/

It states that cars registered prior to 2002 should not use it, given Omega's engines date essentially from 90's guess it's going to be a problem?

However:

"Drivers are advised to contact car manufacturers with any questions surrounding their specific vehicle. For example, Vauxhall says “E10 fuel can be used in all petrol-engine Vauxhall vehicles except models with the 2.2-litre direct-injection petrol engine (code Z22YH) used in Vectra, Signum and Zafira.”

As they mention Signum/Vectra that's not been in production for years, suggest GM V6 still good?

Rumoured E10 fuel will start to be sold here soon, to meet emissions targets.   :(

Article is a bit old, but nice and clear as there are some fresh news circling about it's introduction.

eg:

I'd be more concerned about fuel lines perish-ing.

e5 will still be available for older cars, so nothing to stop you using that.

Roll out in Germany and other countries has been quite aggressive though, with older 95/E5 stuff harder to get.

As can't see garages installing additional pumps, wonder if E10 and only Super Unleaded would be offered on the petrol pumps, as normally only 2 types of petrol offered.

That's not what the article says, and garages will offer whatever sells. Changes like this don't happen overnight and, if e5 did start getting hard to find, the loss of a few old bangers wouldn't really matter that much.

Just reading various articles, snippets from EU forums, suggests though they cannot "offer what ever sells"

It will be a government push.... still looks like another nail for the Omega, to add to the impending rust doom.

Along with London's ULEZ, if that gets pushed out just 2 miles from it's current proposed route, it would be bean tins for my 3.2  :(

Like I said, in the great scheme of things.........no great loss. Sooner or later, old gas guzzlers will be banned, as will dirty diesels.
Look at the news today about what air pollution is doing to people in the worlds biggest cities. Particularly look at the picture of the very young Chinese child , peering through the smog in it's mothers arms, with it's 'gas mask' on.

The news is on now. Go on, have a look.

I'd give up my car for an electric one in an instant, and will do when they become more usable.
