Elite door speaker
« on: 18 August 2006, 00:53:26 »

I'm probably answering my own question here, but just wondering.
I replaced my passenger door speaker a while ago when it packed in with one that only had one wiring connector, the original had two & I taped the other connector up.
I don't play the stereo too load normally, but when I turned it up the other day there was something missing; the rear parcel shelf speakers aren't working, but the rear doors are. (Thing is I can't remember if they did before!).
Does this other connector feed the the parcel shelf or is there something else up?
I've just spotted one on ebay & I'm wondering whether to go for it.
(Non amplified)
Cheers.

i take it you are referring to the rear speaker you replaced...

If so then there would be two connectors, one of them will go off to the rear shelf speakers, you will need to strip the new speaker out and reconnect the taped up wires.

Just one other question, the speaker you replaced it with, was it a genuine one?
Reason for asking is this, normal car speakers are 4ohms, i noticed that the rear elite ones are 2 ohms, i believe that is so to allow the speakers to be wired in seires, if your replacement speaker is 4 ohms then it will not work as well...

Hope that helps

Thanks,
Actually I was about the front passenger door,
Should have been a bit more specific?
Cheers

my original suggection was based on the speaker being the rear ones.

On the elite the speakers in the rear share the same colour code and power supply, the fronts o am not too sure about.
that said i wonder if the second set of wires was for the tweeter that's in the door, have you tried to trace the wire to see where it goes, also what colour is the wire, there will be two of them, one will have a tracer on it, i might be able to tell where it's supposed to go from that

I think the other wires were both black, it's a while since I changed it. I have a speaker coming (hopefully this week) so will find out soon.

I seem to recall that the extra two connections are for the tweeter.....the two sub speakers are driven directly from the philips amp just in front of the spare wheel.

Ah, I assumed because it's not the Bose system that the rears weren't amplified. I've not noticed an amp, so will have a check, Thanks.

I had a proper listen today & the front tweeters are working. There is bass coming from the rear parcel shelf. Now I'm wondering if the rears are a combo speaker & there should be high end coming from them too, will find out if & when the front replacement arrives.
