Consider yourself lucky that Britain left the EU.

Otherwise you would have had to have a medical ( about £35) then a test of reactions and abilities ( free) and then pay to have your licence renewed ( another about £40). Every ten years from age 65

When/if you rejoin the EU you may have all that to look forward to as the rules are harmonised.

we ought to be doing all of that anyway. Proof of a recent sight test and a receipt for any nscessary corrective lenses should be another requirement.

That is one advantage of being a diabetic on insulin. I get a free new licence every 3 years.

The bad side of that is that every 3 years you have to go through medical hoops to ensure you are fit to hold a licence!

I have a medical every 5years, and eyetest every 2. 

I think an eyetest should be mandatory after 60 every 2 years. 

And after driving from Nerja to Alhurin last night, there's a few of the natives, who should have the license taking off them, the standard of night driving is bad, they just can't keep up a decent speed or decided which lane to use.

So off I go, but my bike conked out just as I got round the first corner.     I had forgotten to turn the petrol tap on! 

I furiously kicked it over until I got it going again, and then went hell for leather round the rest of the block to the last corner, which I went sedately round where the tester was waiting to step out in front for the emergency stop! 

I passed!

I don't remember the dates, but I had my test booked, 2days before the law changed, and due to being unwell missed my test on a RD250f, that I had rebuilt, so never took my test, probably a blessing as I think I may not have lasted as long as I have....

Does that mean I'm as young as the wurzel.

Yes.....before 1983 (according to Sir Tig) 'spotty 17 year old yoofs' could take their test on ton up 30 BHP 250cc 2 strokes.

No helmet law before 1973 and I would often ride pillion without a helmet on a 650cc Triumph Bonneville owned by my brother.

Good friend of mine passed his test on a Honda 250. A week later he sold it and bought a brand new 1978 Suzuki GS1000 with 90 BHP. A week later after a horrific crash with a car he was in a box and I was at his funeral.

I remember a few similar incidents with mates in the 70,s. Mostly on two stroke 250,s. Came pretty close to becoming one of those stories myself.
