Prowling e-bay for timing (cam belt) kits for V6 Omegas, the Gates, Contitech and AC Delco kits depict the belt, the 2 pulleys on the backing plate and the idler pulley, but not the sprung tensioner pulley. I cannot believe they do not include the tensioner pulley; why is it not depicted? When last seeking a kit I enquired of the AC Delco kit vendor whether the kit included the tensioner, and was told it did not. Please explain what is going on.

You're confused.

There are only 3 pulleys in a belt kit: the two attached to the backing plate(which are between the heads, and the lower pulley on the driver's side) and the separate lower pulley on the passenger side.

Seriously, for the first time ever. I fitted a gates kit to a 05 plate astra 17 deisesal, which ive performed on a few occasions.

two months later the idles pulley shell creaped across to cut a hole in the back cover!

Strangely, the replacement under warranty kit was skf.

Thank you Nick. I was indeed confused, thinking of the tensioner pulley on the 4 cylinder cam belt system. Just checked on my spare INA kit, it has only 3 pulleys, tensioner is on a pulley on the backplate.
This makes this AC Delco kit at £19.99 free postage a good buy.

I found those ACDelco ones (not the HBV youve linked to ;) ) and thought they were suspiciously cheap...

Yes. As said earlier on this thread, all V6 kits will fit all Omega V6 engines. You may have to change the back plate, but that is trivial.

I think that's the aux. belt and tensioner pulley not the cam belt. ;)

The cam belt does require a locking kit for correct fitting.

On a side note, is there a recommended locking kit for the Desmond?

Sorry about the wrong reference. I have fitted many kits in my time, from many suppliers, and the only rotten ones came from Vauxhall. They came in plain boxes, with unlined belts, fitted all right but whined, especially when cold. I think JamesV6CDX suffered similarly. AC Delco usd to be part of General Motors, did it not?
