Kate's Car
« on: 04 April 2008, 15:03:26 »

I have phoned the mechanic that Kate took her car too.
He says that water is gushing out from the drivers side block where the head gasket is.......
Now if that is the case, if Captain Zok and me went up to reseal the oil cooler plate that wouldn't make an once of difference...
So what other way around this is there?
If Kate was in the AA or RAC she could get it down here then Mark, Timbuk or anyone else who knows about head gaskets could cast their eye on it.....
What do you all think?

OK, was thinking about MaxV6's one with coolant leaking from HG (1998 model), and possibly one other 1998 model with a possible similar problem.

Hi,
Depends how carefully you look. Water coming out around oil cooler top plate could easily be mistaken for coming from HG could it not ??

I know that when I had water spewing from the thermostat cover seal I thought it was coming fron oil cooler plate till I got right into it.

Okies this probably borders on illegal .. but .....  AA membership does NOT cover the vehicle, it covers the driver... so ... if either CapnZok or You are in AA .... if you get there and decide it is HG not Oil cooler, you could drive it onto the road and call the AA to get it taken "home" - if you have AA Relay - wherever that may be ....   :)

If its Oil Cooler, fix it .. if not ... have it taken "home"  :)

I have the top breakdown cover through Churchill which is Green Flag I think.

Maybe I could take some pictures of where the water is coming from?

Thanks for all the help by the way! :y

Dunno if you've spoken to Daz regarding Mark's suggestion Kate but yes pictures of the leak may well help give a better idea of the problem.

It's coming from behind the drive belt and over the sump at the front.

I have spoken to the mechanic that Kate took her car too. He said that water was Gushing out from the drivers side block.
Now if we were to go up and do the Oil Cooler Plate like we have been willing to do, and find that the mechanic was right Kate is then had to shell out money for my petrol plus the parts I was picking up.
If though Kate drove down the road then called out the AA or whoever and said she was going to my house or Timbuks, they would take Kate and her car there. If then the head gasket has actually gone we have more hands and knowledge to help to fix the car.
In the mean time if Kate could get some K-Seal from her local car accessories, put it into the reservoir then see if it stops the leak..

Ok, Kate needs to put some K-Seal in her car.
So if she can get her car to my house next weekend, we will be able to see for sure what is happening be it the head gasket or not.
If the worst comes to the worst and it is the head gasket how much will the bits cost Kate?
Will the heads need skimming?
Also will anyone be available to do the heads at my house?
