what brand tyres - 52 plate 2.6 CDX
« on: 18 September 2011, 12:12:01 »

Afternoon peeps!

My cheapo Eastern European tyres will need replacing soon.
What size and brand of tyre was OEM?

Any other suggestions from people who've experimented with other brands?

(I'm primarily looking for comfort and quietness, not racetrack performance)

kumhos and hankook s2 are ok both for comfort and price.. however their perfomance  slightly less than top spec tires (conti and bridgestone)..but if you wont hammer under rain you wont feel..

I must note that if only comfort and noise was my priority and price and tire life is not a big concern I would buy michelin primacy hp.. very soft and silent tire.. but not long lasting and expensive..and also structure not that robust like conti and bridgestone

and if you are going to buy expensive tires either conti sc5 or bridgestone potenza s001.

micheline ps3 is also a good tire but tire life relatively short and not very good in colder climates..

I thought Primacy had really good wear rates?  :-/

Don't rate potenza 001 that highly tbh. For the wear rate I expected more grip. Sc3 superior on both criteria.

good tyre I suppose but better available.

Also primacy last for ever ime. 30k not unusual, but very expensive, noisy and very poor grip. But not that poor given their mileage.

Any recommendations for a quiet tyre with decent-ish grip?

Set of BF Goodrich on the front of mine and still good life left after 30k,think they were about £85 each.

Have had good wear/noise levels from Pirelli Rosso,s and have a set on the rar at the moment which have about 18k but still reasonable tread left.

I have found Michelins to last well but bit noisey as they are a very hard tyre and dont give much response. They are also by far the most expensive and imho not worth the extra cost.

Hancook K105's on the front caused bad tramlining on my car.  Moved them to the rear wheels where they did not cause any problems.  Fitted P6's to the front and cured the tramlining.

Elite now gone.  Bought an X-Type 4x4.  If there had been an Omega 4x4 I would have bought that instead.  We really liked the Omega, but I wanted 4x4.

When I bought my current Omega in Dec. `09 previous owner had these fitted in the Sept. I`ve done about 12K since, about 4-5mm tread left. No tramlining, decent grip, near zero roadnoise. "W" rated. As said, budget tyre but ticks the boxes for me as I don`t need to leave rubber behind me to know where I`ve just come from ;D

No suggestion about what you should go for, but absolutely avoid Sunny. Very very noisy on my '52 2.6 CDX Estate.
