Now thats a nice setup, I am looking for a good secondhand twin axle now, either a Eccels or Bailey.

Thanks. That van in the pic was a 98 bailey senator but last year i got a single axle 03 abbey safari and the van it's self getting on for the same size as the bailey but being a single it's not quite as good to tow as a twin and plus with there being 3 of us now we could do with the extra room because little people do have a lot of stuff :o :o

The only twin axle I've towed is a .... horse box. ::) Trouble was I knew it was there, it was a lot heavier than I thought it's be ..... towing with a 1.7 TD Astra estate  :-?
On the plus side, it was dead easy to reverse, you had to make it turn a corner, unlike a single that wants to go anywhere but where you want it  ;D

Hello,
a long time I was here. We happen to like traveling with a caravan, so we bought one.
I can not wait to travel experiences. Over time, you might also look at the islands, which attract me. (On this, but I have more to learn English  :P )

Its good to see the caravan pics.
I keep my caravan in storage on site in Dorset so do not have to tow. I have just upgraded to an Elddis Crusader Superstorm (twin wheelbase) and wondered if, in an emergency I had to tow it, would my Omega handle it. Looking at some of your piccys, it seems it probably would, but I believe the Elddis is a very heavy van.
I don't understand all these kerbweight things they chuck at you.  :-? :-? :-? :-?

The normal stats are as follows.

Kerb Weight of Car = Car + Full Fuel Tank
Kerb Weight of Caravan = Weight of Van Unloaded.

The normal rules that applies is the caravan / trailer should not exceed 85% of the cars Kerb Weight For safe driving.

E.g. Omega 2.5 V6 Estate= 1749kg
So 85% = 1486kg

That is the general rule of thumb..
Hope that helps.

The 85% 'rule' is purely a recomended max for the inexperienced.

We have pulled our van with all our omega's over the past 3 years. started with the 2.5 td estate got about 22mpg with that. Then we used the wife's old dti 2.2 estate and got about 28-29 mpg. last May went to Pembroke with the 3.0 ltr elite estate and got 16 mpg.
Now use the 2.5 td5 Disco and get over 30 mpg. Yesterday a 03 plate 3.2 estate became my next omega I bet that has a nice low mpg on it if i ever put the van on the back. :y :y

What are you towing?  :o I usually get around 20 mpg with the caravan (Lunar Delta 520/2) on the back of my 3.0 although I have seen it as low as 16.6 when we drove to Cornwall in the piddling rain.  :-?  :y

Thanks for the guidelines, fellas....
I am off to caravan soon, so will check weights in handbook when there, although I suppose if I dig around on Elddis site I may find tech spec.
If 85% is a 'guideline' at what percentage would 'Mr Plod' take an interest, and is car + petrol  without passengers.
Sorry sounding dim   :-?

I'm really not sure whether you're allowed to tow more than 100%, but Plod & VOSA take more of an interest in combinations that are clearly incorrectly loaded. You see them all the time on the motorway, cars that are almost down on their bump stops at the back making headlights lights more like WWII search lights.  :-?
