I just drove my daughter's TF about 15 miles, and that is far enough. Noisy, too firm, no room for me at 6'4". She can keep it! :P

The projectors on my Mig are crap imo, espacially the dipped beam. I am thinking of buying some Osram night breaker bulbs, but there is a bewildering choice tbh from H1/H4/H7/H11 ETC.
Anyone know which are the best options for both dipped and main beams on my car ? :-/

I put four Nightbreakers on mine last week, I can't believe the difference. However, since the ones I took out have been on for 12 years, I guess they might have lost a little lustre. ::) :y

Since I do very few miles, it makes no difference to me, but I think it might make some people feel better if they blockade or boycott certain companies.

I think the suggestion in this e-mail I received recently may have more effect:

[size=12]We are hitting £129.9 a litre in some areas now and soon we will be faced with paying £1.50 per litre. So Philip Hollsworth offered this good idea:

This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the 'don't buy petrol on a certain day campaign' that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to hurt ourselves by refusing to buy petrol. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work.

Please read it. and if you agree, join in...

Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a litre is CHEAP, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS - not sellers, control the market place. With the price of petrol going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of petrol come down is if we hit someone in the pocket by not purchasing their petrol! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. Here's the idea:

For the rest of this year (2011) DON'T purchase ANY fuel from the two biggest oil companies (which now are one) i.e. ESSO and BP.

If they are not selling any petrol, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact we need to reach literally millions of Esso and BP petrol buyers all around the world.

Well, it's really simple to do!!

Please don't wimp out on me at this point... keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach the millions of fuel-buyers we need to make it work.

I am sending this note to at least 30 people. If all of you send it   to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)....and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000) ... and so on.  By the time the message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers! If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it.....

THREE HUNDRED MILLION  PEOPLE!!!

Again, all YOU have to do is send this to 10 people

(or as many as you can). That's all you have to do plus NOT buy motor fuel at ESSO/BP).

So how long would all that take? If each of us sends this email out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 plus MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!! Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on.

AND PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES.

It's easy to make this happen. Just forward this email, and buy your petrol at Shell,Asda,Tesco, Sainsburys, Morrisons, Jet etc. i.e. Boycott BP and Esso.

Just imagine the panic at BP and Esso Headquarters when

the fuel sales (and product sales from their forecourt shops) suddenly begin to fall.

Send this to ten e-addresses (or as many as you can) and not buy anything at BP or Esso forecourts. A simple yet effective way to see what a difference People Power can make.

Trains? Never heard of them in these parts. I think Beeching got it right - if they cannot survive on their own merit, close the lines.

I also think HS2 should be scrapped, or at the very least, ENTIRELY paid for by the company running it.

There were certainly trains to Brackley in the '50s, as day boys used to commute from Woodford Halse to our school. :y

Ah! I've seen a TD battery! They're HUGE! I think removal would be the best option

It certainly made the swap simple, and allowed me to easily reset my assymetric levers at the same time. :y

I've just replaced all 4 headlamp bulbs with Nightbreakers, I can't remember ever changing any of these in the 12 years  I've had the car.

I took the battery off for better access, but has anyone changed the LH ones, particularly the main beam bulb, without taking the battery off?

While changing the bulbs, I noticed slight play in the reflectors on both sides, is this normal? :-? :y
Depends how slight you mean.
Yep, slacken bolt holding clamp & slide battery back as far as

..yup - that's how I do it too - even to change the sidelight bulb. If you know where al the bolts are - it's a 10 minute job. You need to get the plastic trim under the headlight off to get at one of the bolts.

cheers
Ian

Really?!

Takes me less than a minute to change the sidelight bulb with the bonnet open.

I'm afraid that the TD battery size means that this would be very difficult to achieve. :y

Prefer to remove the headlight myself.

To change the bulb? Admittedly I haven't had a headlight off, but that seems a little drastic. :y

Hello,
I do not want to be negative about these guides as I have had to use just about every one and have been impressed by some of the photos of hard to see bits. The advice about camber is incorrect if you do the maths and I have standard wheels the measurements will give near to 2 degrees. The cleaning of diesel injectors states that the copper washers should be replaced, BMW do not list them as a part, a diesel engine specialist did not have any even in the odd washers draw, and he has never changed them saying that you just clean the seating areas bit of copper slip and do them up tight. There is no torque settings, no explanation of cleaning out the area around or in the injector thread area. The idea of using two spanners to split the body of the injector and standing on them, bad idea. I do not want to be negative as I said earlier but some of the advice can get you into trouble.
How many do you want ive got 100 of them :P
Julian the post was done with limited tools as most of us oofers dont have fancy garages kitted out to the max with snap on gear.
Ive worked on diesels for around 17 years now starting on a railway preservation overhauling injectors and fuel pumps so theres no need to tell your granny how to suck eggs ;) ;)

Sadly I don't think he's even reading it. Maybe he's one of those who jumps around forums making wisecracks just to wind people up. Some people get a kick out of this sort of thing. Of course, perhaps I'm being unkind, but unless he responds we shall never know. :y :y :y

an old mechanic once told me that by holding a copper washer over a flame for a few seconds helps the re- bedding in situ. as for Hoofing its guide , i personally would follow his guidance to the letter, he, :ys a very knowledgeable guy.

Yes, until its dull red. No more, no less :y

As I have an oversize sump plug and washer, the latter has been annealed at least 6 times already. :y :y :y

Just thought I'd give a quick heads up to anyone looking for a TD Elite estate.
It has a private registration currently, DOR is 24/05/2000
I would assume it's a facelift, but there are no pictures currently.
It's done 93,144 miles
Vauxhall Omega 2.5 TD Auto Elite estate in silver.
To be auctioned at BCA Walsall on the 20th of January.
damned auto again!!!

It could be a nice little project though  ::)
I've got a 2000 Omega 3.0 manual, you could take the gearbox out of that and swap them over  ;D

If anyone's interested in the vehicle, I'm more than happy to go with them and use my trade plates to drive the vehicle with my trade policy. BCA sites are seeing a lot of recent police interest ensuring cars leaving are all appropriately taxed and insured.

That's very generous Josh, if it was a bit younger I might have been interested as a spare. :y
