NCDC2013
« on: 30 October 2015, 17:00:57 »

So I turn to you wise men with an ohter probleem.
Got some smoke out of my HU and now it can't find any radiostations nor produce any sound and the steering buttons does not work(dosen't even lit up). Took it apart and it looks like melted area behind the front panel plug. Nothing has exploded though and the HU works othervise.

The question is where or if lts possible to buy spare parts for the HU? Does anyone have the front half of the board for sale, can it be changed without Tech-2?

Front board (nearest facia) is where all the security is, so will need tech2 and knowledge of pairing codes (from existing and donor).

Unusual for it to fail, its usually the rear board that tunes to channel smoke.

So its easier to find a replacement HU. Thanks

Probably matters not if you get front board or a replacement unit. Both options will need Tech2 and need the existing and donor pairing codes.

But if I get a set of HU and display is it plug'n'play or still need tech2?

As long as there paired to each other it will be fine.

If the display is not from an identical car (engine, gearbox, check control, bose, headlights, telematics etc etc) then it will need tech2 to get correct config on display.

If you get a (correctly programmed) MID and a wiper stalk with buttons on end, and do some simple wiring, you can retain trip computer functions

This means the MID has to come from 3litre v6, as mine is 3l v6?

Steering wheel buttons need HU to operate the CID or..? What if i install interface cable to retain sw controls to aftermarket boombox, will it "fool" the CID?

MID - yes. Controlled (directly) from wiper stalk.

Nothing you can do with cid without NCDx HU, and you won't find any compatible adapters.

There's a guide for retrofitting the MID, given that your car already has the sensors, it might just be plug and play, the only extra wiring being the stalk... Haynes wiring diagrams are comprehensive in this regard :y
