Title: 2.2 Stereo
Post by: fudgee on 19 November 2017, 18:50:26
Hi guys.
I need a new standard stereo for a 53 plate 2.2 cd auto.
Ideally one still in good condition cosmetically and also if anybody has the 2 prongs for removing the old one that would be great.

I don't know if replacement stereos are just plug and play or if I need a code?

Thanks a lot

2005 units were fitted to CD spec, yes you will need code for it.

Prongs for removal can be had for pennies off eBay. Just search double din pins  :y

What’s wrong with current unit?

It's a bit of a mystery actually mate.
I've only just put a deposit down today and am not collecting the car until Wednesday which used to belong to a gentleman who has sadly passed away.
One of his sons dealt with the sale and just said that his dad used to say there was a trick to getting it to work but he obviously doesn't know what it was....which he found greatly amusing  :) :)
Press the power button and nothing.
I'm just seeing if I can source one so it's ready to go when I collect it

I’d collect it, investigate it and report here. Is it orginal radio fitted?

Photos would help  :y

Odds on it`s the power button. Try pushing button hard at different points of the compass

I'm collecting the car this friday not Wednesday sorry.
It definitely looks like the original one.
I'll try what Rob G suggested and if it is that I'll probably still get it replaced as that sort of thing just annoys me unfortunately.
Unless of course there is a fix for that particular problem.
I've ordered some double din pins off ebay as suggested  :y
If I do need a replacement I should imagine it's going to be a pain in the arse trying to source one from a breaker that has the code available.
Does anybody know if it's possible to retrieve the code from Vauxhall via some type of serial number which I'm assuming is on the back of the unit somewhere?

Think I have one with code however it has the problem that they have which is that the on/off button has to be pushed very hard to get it to come on...As said on here that maybe the problem with yours so when you get it give it a try first...if you need any more info on mine just ask, :y

Thanks for the great advice lads  :y
I just tried pushing the power button in very firmly as suggested and it worked first time so I now have music in my new Mig!!
You can only adjust the volume via the steering wheel controls but it will do for now.
I'm still on the lookout for a replacement unit as I like everything in my cars to be spot on, however the decent looking ones on ebay are a bit overpriced in my opinion so I'm going to be patient and wait until I spot a good deal.
Thanks again  :y :y

Do all 2005's need a code ?
Just removed a good one from my lads corsa c and pretty sure it has no code  :-\ :-\

I have a CCR2006 off a 2002 2.2 diesel which was scrapped.

It has a code, I am only in West Sussex, you could come and get it and give me a tenner for the RNLI.

 :) :)

2005 unit in my 2.2 came from a Corsa, as it had a silver facia compared to grey stock. It has a code as well  :y

Not something I would normally say as I like my cars original but...

Seeing as you don’t have Bose to contend with I’d probably go aftermarket so there’s the option of Bluetooth, nav etc... :-\
