£11500 over almost exactly 2 years ......or £110 each and every week if I wish to depress myself.

The thing is......WBAC regularly send me emails saying my car is worth X amount and I usually ignore them. However, in the last week or two they have raised their offer by almost £3000, so I thought.....hmmm.....maybe just maybe it's time for a change.


I made an appointment and drove to see them where a kid of about 19 or 20 pressed a few switches and checked the electric windows were working. He took 5 minutes tops. He then offered me £500 less because of a couple of stone chips just above the number plate. To be fair the offer was better than expected but on a matter of principle I declined the offer.

Depreciation is starting to slow, which is good if I keep the car longer........

But as the car ages  costly repairs become more likely. Dilemma.

The 4.4V8 is BMW. 

The 4.4 BMW lump is definitely not without issues, mostly around the various ways that oil and water can escape.

I probably should have gone for the 4.4 V8 version - at least I'm (intimately) familiar with all of those ways as it's basically the same engine as the 650.. (oil leaks from the vacuum pump, failing valve stem seals, the "water pipe of doom" in the middle of the V, etc .. though the BMW has only suffered one of three so far..)

I'd rather have the supercharged 5.0 AJV8, though..

To be fair - it's not like the Omega doesn't share a lot of these failures (besides chain because.. belt, but neglecting that will still lunch the engine), though. Oil in the plug wells, coolant/oil leaks in the middle of the Vee.

Having had a few other cars too, it seems like most of these failures are common to all modern cars - especially rocker cover gaskets..
