Omega General Help / Re: V6 top end rattle

nice tip. Heard people say a splash of diesel (seems a little extreme/scary) but always a bit anxious when "I reckon/my mate's brother says he swears by..." etc..

But coming from you I know that will be from experience and knowledge, ta  :y

Don't think it's timing starting to die then, Nick?

I have had HBV at back of my mind, however it's not that old. I do have an aftermarket one as 'reserve' so will probably change it for that just to eliminate it from my inquiries.  :y

Just to add, this clatter only occurs on a warm/hot engine. Which I would assume (possibly wrongly) that rules out leaky exhaust gaskets / slipping timing.

good  :y

basically so long as I can rule out timing I'm a happy boy. Going to get some Forte Top End or similar off Amazon in a sec, see what that does.  :y

Omega General Help / V6 top end rattle
« on: 24 September 2020, 12:03:40 »
As per...

Fairly loud clatter / rattle very much like a diesel.

Timing overdue slightly (few thou, this is in hand soon as I can get to the very nice chap)
Oil weep (long standing leak, always suspected rear crank seal)
Coolant weep (getting worse, shot up to about a litre in the last week, versus maybe 1 litre a month-2month)
Oil pickup strainer cleaned earlier this year
Regular oil changes, last service only a couple of months ago

Concerned it's beginnings of timing slipping, however other posts on here suggest oil starvation, tappets.

Would have had her off the road long time ago but she's in daily use by other half as District Nurse, so ploughs through 1k miles a month. In spite of the above runs sweet as a nut, good mpg, smooth.

This clatter is forcing my hand though I've had enough, don't want to leave her like that if it's going to be serious. Thoughts?

General Car Chat / Halfrauds 200 piece on sale...
« on: 03 September 2020, 11:56:15 »
As title. Just a note to say the 200-piece is now on sale at £260 down from £325. The 175-piece is now back up to RRP, ( though you may get lucky and your local branch hasn't updated their prices on the 175 :y.) changed the prices yesterday  ;)

Obviously another nice chunk off if you have a Trade Card.

22
Fair enough. I'm suggesting effectively replacing the bearings and regulator in an alternator, rather than bin the whole unit. I appreciate the prices are different, but same thing.

Also as a small caveat I've not been in work this year, so Tesco's 'every little helps' is very much a way of life for me not just a slogan! If I have to scrabble round in the mud for 12 hrs straight but it saves a tenner I'll gladly do it!  :D

johnnydog, and Nick, thanks, will see what my local Vx charge at least I can start making decisions cost v time etc..

 ;D

Its fine  :y

with factory rust and bonus dried blood from the previous owner who ripped his skin apart on the crappy things  :-X

That's all part of the seasoning. But they are made hand crafted by certified pure-bred descendents of Alexander Wilson from Ultra-madeupiumTM, so it won't have adversely affected them.

For those unaware this is historically accurate  :y

Thanks all. Yes, this has been my idea for a while, every time I encountered a scrap car I'd try and raid the barely used glovebox locks. Sadly Ive not not all the numbers I need, and dont get to the scrap yards as much as I used to. Am going to strip down the lock one day we dont need the car (done it before) and just check what numbered sliders I need, as I did make a 'map' the last time I had it apart but managed to loose it  ::)

This is a bit annoying as doing some digging the sliders are the same as used on (practically) every Vauxhall from the late 70s to late 90s and very early 2000s (Royale to early Vectra C!) so a big enough market surely to make them. Anyway, will have a looks and report back.

Remember that it's pre-booked tickets only and you have to turn up in a Vauxhall.  (Or a Mazda rotary engined sportscar....!)
"All Vauxhall owners are invited to drive into Beaulieu and park up within the museum parkland for what promises to be a superb day out for both Vauxhall owners and enthusiasts.

Whether you drive a Corsa, RX8 or something a little older such as a Model A, all models are welcome at Simply Vauxhall, which is set to provide a great opportunity to admire other’s vehicles. Bedford’s are also welcome.

To ensure the safety and enjoyment of visitors is met, tickets must be pre-booked and capacity will be strictly limited to 1000 participants (participant tickets are per person - adult and child) . These tickets will be sold on a first come first served basis. No tickets will be sold on the day.
"

Maybe they mean the A-Type...but that was made around the 1910s...there was a 'Light SIx' A Type in the 30s...but I imagine they're don't mean that, last time I checked a Model A was a Ford! My this is a well-researched affair.  :D Reminds me of when they first made the 'VauxFest' logo and a fair few thousand people pointed out the car silhouette in the logo was a Capri!!

The recommended repair kit for our barrels as found here...

https://www.nwkeys.co.uk/Product/discontinued-keying-kit-to-suit-vauxhall-h-y-laser-series-locks

is discontinued, so, what's our options? Has anyone found any other places out there? Mine's getting a bit unhappy in this weather and want to get on it before we're left stranded.

Hope you're all still alive and well! Ta  :y

I liked someone commented "just think how it would feel to a Jew waling down the streets on Mengele's home town and seeing a statue of him for his early work in Medicine"...to which I answer - well, yes, indeed. Or that same Jew walking through the Polish countryside and discovering a Auschwitz, they've only gone and preserved it! Sat there for all to see! SO offensive! Raze it to the ground, I say!

Do you know they celebrate this bloke called Guy Gibson back in Lincs? He slaughtered hundreds of innocent civilian steelworkers near a dam in the 1940s, so I recall.

 ::)

Just a final take on morality... if ONE of those protesters against needless death in their huddled masses ends up catching Covid, and spreading it to - and kills - my dear nan (or anyone for that matter) I hope their conscience allows them to appreciate the irony if the situation.   >:(  :'(

That's enough of me, for now!

Just realised I haven't said thanks to Dave for the tool offer. Thanks and depending who's doing the job depends if they have one already. So watch this space,  but again, thanks for the offer, very decent of you!  :y
