Oxford meet no.4
« on: 16 October 2010, 22:32:32 »

I had a PM today reminding me it was about time for the next Oxford meet, as I'd forgotten. The 3 previous meets have been excellent.
Ideas on a location and date are welcomed  :y

First meet was opposite me, the following 2 were at cutteslowe park; so more than happy to move the location around a bit.

As you have probably worked out by now I'm turning into a bit of an Omega groupie,so I will be there as usual, dates permitting.
Are you thinking of November or December? :)

i was wondering whether the garage over the road might hire me the place cheap for a sunday meet....  there's plenty of parking along our road, and around the back of our place....    and a pub just down the road, and my infamous culinary skills at hand.....  dunno.....   but it's worth asking....  i know they frequently use sundays to work on their own classic and competition vehicles....    and maybe there'd be an issue with insurance....  but it could at least be worth broaching the subject.

whatever is decided, i'm up for it, now i've got a miggy that's worthy of some attention and adoration....     and i'm determined to be more in evidence in these parts of cyber space.....   (i'm also trying to reduce the hours i spend moderating a work based forum with 85,000+  members)

Places that spring to mind are:

Shotover (no idea what is up there now)
Brill Hill (maybe one for Summer, its bleak up there in Winter)

Doubt neither offer anything over Cuttesloe though :y

Further afield, if thats an idea to attract newer members...
Wendover Woods (Pay nad Display :(, few things to do, but further afield)
Pittsford Reservoir (other side of Northampton)
Willen Lake, Milton Keynes
Stockwell Park, Luton
Must also be places around Cotswolds, Stratford, Henley, Marlow etc etc

Maybe another venue to consider at Stokenchurch. There is a woodland area on top of the hill with public car parks (it's close to the M40 between J6 and J5) and I'm sure the autumn colours will start to look pretty good this time of year too as a backdrop. On Google earth you can see it as Cowleaze Wood
I don't know any of them personally - but there are a few pubs in Stokenchurch along the Oxford Road too for refreshments if you're interested  ::).
Not train set I'm afraid though ...

Cheers
Ian.

I think we need somewhere with sufficient facilities, esp for the ladies.  Its easier, apparently, for us blokes to 'water a tree' ;D

That said, to be honest, Cuttesloe has what we need, do we want to 'break' what has started to become a popular meet?

Think you could be right it seems to work there, although I would'nt mind a return meet at Ashridge only because there was more space available.

I'll second that I think Cuttesloe is a perfect place to meet up.

TB and Ken, you make good points. I quite like it at Cutteslowe, but it's only down the road for me, a 2 minute drive...and I know others come from much further away. So, I thought moving it around may help other people attend.
Would the 23rd or the 30th of this month, both Saturdays be any good? Or do you need more notice?

Fair point about facilities - where is Ashridge ?

Cuttesloe does have 2 entrances however..

What date do we want to aim for - next Saturday afternoon (23rd) or the following (30th) as a starter for 10 ?

Unfortunately for me I can't do any dates until the 13th or the 20th November so it looks like it's a no from me this time round  :( :'(

30th is better for me as our Rottie goes in to the vet on the 21st to have his bit taken away  :o :o :o :'( :'( :'( :( :( :( so he will be at home feeling sorry for himself and 23rd is a bit to close time wise.
