Omega General Help / Re: Mayo on oil cap after oil change
« on: 22 November 2010, 21:17:03 »
Some oils produce more moisture than others. I've always used genuine VX 10w40. it seems to produce the least mayo. Change it every 5000 miles. You could always take the filler neck off (the yellow cap fits straight onto the cam cover) bit messy when you have to top up etc...(Keep it in the boot just in case) :y :y

Try a set of those LED replacement bulbs from Halfords. Same fitting as the standard bulbs but much brighter yet they only use the same wattage.  :y

« on: 10 October 2010, 22:21:23 »
Very easy to do mate. i've just done the rears on mine. New Vented discs, new pads and i replaced the hand brake shoes while i had it apart too. The hand brake shoes wern't that worn but replaced them as i had a set.
I paid £60 for the discs about £15 for the pads and a tenner for the shoes .Took about 4 hours (loads a T Breaks)

if your mig is a saloon it could be the part of the wire that has to bend everytime the boot opens and closes. thats where there was a break in the wire on mine was found.
Hope this helps

Omega General Help / Re: Safe areas for axle stands
« on: 05 October 2010, 12:34:20 »
Thanks guys, i normally use a small 2 ton trolley just forward of the main suspension bolt (still on the steel plate) then try to slide an axle stand under the bolt itself. sometimes this takes a couple of go's. My drive is a bit uneven so i'll have to do one side at a time.

Thanks again.

Omega General Help / Safe areas for axle stands
« on: 04 October 2010, 23:19:39 »
I'm doing my rear discs, pads and hand brake shoes very soon and i've always wondered where the best place to sit the axle stands were. I usually use the trolley jack at the main rear suspension points which does'nt leave many places left. dont want to bend floor pans or anything else.
I can only jack up the car one side at a time so i cant use the diff as a jacking point.

Thanks in advance

Yes i have to give my wheels a good scrub every week or it starts to burn into the alloy. only way round it is to paint your wheels a nice shade of black  :P

try paint protector polishes also for alloys, they do help..
Thanks CEM i've never tried paint protectors on wheels before :y

Omega General Help / Re: cruise
« on: 24 September 2010, 23:28:49 »
Yes it can . Had mine done by Marks DTM on here. you will need the stalk with the cruise controls on and if its a manual you need to check to see if yours has the clutch pedal switch. :y

Omega General Help / Re: Brake Discs & Pads
« on: 23 September 2010, 12:31:12 »
I didnt bother replacing my sensor this time round. Flimzy things (broke the last one trying to fit it).....Front pads usually last at least 12K so you only have to take the wheel off every 6 months to check.
If your feeling lazy just pop down to your local "You cant get thicker than a fast fit fitter" place and they will do a free brake inspection for you :y
