No, as I suggested in another thread it is all down to mathematics!!

.....and to further show the significance of UK weather and the dates containing 3 or 7 over the last 800 years:

1287 The Great Storm

1703 The Great Tempest

1947 The Big Snow

1953 Storm of the Century

1963 The Big Freeze

1987 The Great Storm

2003  The hottest day ever in this year

Now there are always exceptions......... :D ;) ;)

What about 1976?

It was just a very hot summer, but did not have the hottest day on record...........apart from that I said there were a few exceptions :D :D ;)

BUT, there is still a 7 in 1976 and two numbers dividable by 3 ;D ;D

Indeed...back then seasons were seasons.....winter, snow on the ground for weeks....summer really hot....now its just seems to blend into one....with tad chilly in winter and a tad warm in summer  :-\

Ironically enough, Tiffins did do me a rather warm Lamb Naga last night.  Certainly there was a little yelp on my first visit to the potty today  :-[

It was god wot done it...........again.

We live on a moving, living, planet without promises of what may happen next, as is the case with our lives ;)

Anyway, life would be really boring without "World events" :D :D :D :y

Moving through space at roughly 67,000 MPH whilst spinning at about 1000 MPH. :)

The old girl certainly has a fair turn of speed.

Actually all held on by gravity, as discovered by apples :P

Gravity is the least of mans worries, but on the subject of that force scientists are now identifying an interesting concept of Newton's observation.

Scientists are giving credit to it is not just gravity that makes the apple fall to earth, but also a case that the Earth is coming up to greet the apple. ;)

Not necessarily.  It was only back in 1632 that Galileo recognised the Earth and all the other planets in our solar system orbit the Sun, not the other way round. The threats and insults he received over that one! :o

Since then scientists have discovered so much, but, as I will always say, mankind knows nothing yet. Never rule out completely what could be true. :y

That was debated/discussed/pondered even while I was doing A level physics ... some 50 years ago !!  The theory of gravitational attraction easily allows for the large object to move towards the small one by a minuscule, almost infinitesimal, amount, look how the surface of the earth moves towards the sun twice a day... high tide caused by gravity  between moon and earth ...

What we never solved was the question set by Doc Hayward (our Physics Head was Justin Hayward's - of the Moody Blues - father.. he might not have taught me a whole lot of Physics .. but he did teach me a lot about music !!) ... who set us the question "if the earth moves towards the apple being dropped, even by a minuscule amount . ......   what happens if 6 apples are simultaneously dropped, one at each of the poles, and one at each quarter point on the equator" ... trouble was .. he never gave us an answer !!!  :)

The net movement of the CofG of the earth is nil, although there will be miniscule bulges in the earths surface centred on the points nearest the apples - effectively the apples will act as 6 mini moons so will cause 6 mini tides.

Measuring "Big G" was the most boring part of A level physics. ::)

That was, if memory serves, about our answer ... 'twas not accepted on the grounds of .. "too simple" .... but no further explanation given .... :)

I think the answer is as straightforward as you want to make it, which is how accurately do you want to measure any differences? Gravity varies slightly across the Earth's surface as NASA GRACE satellite is currently measuring at a far greater accuracy than has been measured before, where the earth is not a perfect sphere and the mass varies due to different parts of the earth being made up of different materials. You then also have the effects that the Sun, Moon and the planets positioning and distance have on the earth and apples.

I'm sure STEMO will be back shortly from walking his whippet and will have all the answers. ::) ::) ::)

One scientific fact that could affect the answer is that the Earth's gravity varies at different points around it's surface.  It is not a constant force at one level (overall 9.807 m/s²) but as it is not perfectly spherical or uniformly dense then the force varies, not by a noticeable amount to us humans, but that variance is there which can affect such calculations as a falling apple(s) in different parts of the globe. ;)

PS Sorry, just seen that Rod has already touched on this!! :-[ :-[ :-[
