Barclaycard have given me a headache
« on: 17 September 2018, 13:22:08 »

Just got an offer through the post. Take a Barclaycard and get 0% on balance transfers for 17 months. 0% balance transfer fee and £20 cash back if more than £2000 is transferred. Apply by November 30th.
All well and good, but we're not carrying a balance on any of our cards.
So.....I might have to turn it into a purchases offer by spending two grand on another card and transferring it to the Barclaycard. Then I could put the two grand I would have spent from the bank into one of our Tesco current accounts which pay 3% on balances up to £3000, thus getting 3% on £2K for 17 months.

Or...I could throw the letter in the bin and take an aspirin. 🤒

I keep my Barclaycard active, but used as little as possible, to cost Barclays money.

Did I mention I hate Barclays with a passion.

I closed my c.c. account with them years ago but they still keep sending me emails to tell me I have a statement.  ::)

Yup... Because they want you to 'need' it for life's little emergencies... That way you can feel better about keeping/using it then, once full you can pay it off with a loan... Rinse and repeat... Until your house is over extended just as the global economy tanks and you lose your job. :-X

Of course, you could simply have a savings account of 6 months expenses and use that for genuine emergencies. Without having to deal with Barclaycard et al...

What do you think would annoy them more? Knowing that you have an active account, or knowing that you don't, and more importantly, that you don't need one.

You can't really annoy a computer.

Although a computer is only as good as the person who programmed it  ::)

Indeed, Barclays has 24 million customers - it's not like there is a little gremlin like man staring at the balance sheets cursing TB; he's not even a spec in their statistics.

It gives me a warm feeling its costing them to service my accounts.  Much like when I piss myself.
