Woohoo! Bargain bucket MOT time!
« on: 03 August 2006, 14:27:21 »

So it was with baited breath that I left the S2N bargain bucket at the MOT station last night.

For those of you that don't know, I've had a great deal of 'trouble' with the brakes on it, as the guy I got to check it over said they were too soft. I've had numerous other opinions on the problem ranging from it's air in the ABS system and you'll need a Tech1 to fix it properly to that's gonna be a new ABS regulator at a cost of £1500! (Guess where I heard that?)

So anyway, I got sick of fettling the brakes so I nailed the thing back together, thoroughly bled the system, adjusted the handbrake and left it at the station.

So the bloke called me just before lunch time to tell me that the braking performance was up to scratch and the rest of the car passed  8-) except that one of the rear brakes was 'binding on'.  :'(

So I deduced that it might be the handbrake shoes, because as far as I was concerned, the caliper should be A-OK. Anyway, above and beyond the call of duty, the bloke said that if he got five minutes, he'd have a look at it for me.

So I started wracking my brain trying to figure out some way of fixing it on the cheap, ('cos I've already spent far too much money on it!!), when the phone rang again. It was my friendly MOT bloke.

He says that it's all working perfectly now that he'd removed the 'G' clamp from the rear brake flexi hose that I'd left ofn after the last time I bled the brakes! DOH!!! (So how'd he not see that on the test then?)

Anyway, it now has a ticket and as soon as I get a tax disk, I'll be able to drive it legally to give it a proper shakedown.  8-) :)

('cept somehow during the course of the MOT, the driver's window is now stuck in the down position!! Go figure!!)

I figure it's probably just a fuse, failing that, I've got a load of spare Senator 'leccy window winders and failing that, the scrappy's got quite a few 'Megas in.

Not a biggy. And yes I think I can forgive hm!!  ;)

Well done Rod, that means you won't need our Senator when/if it returns from its jaunt to Prague and back. ;)

We depart to Calais on the 31st of August.....

I did wonder if the advice you were being given on the brakes was any good as the Omega has a very progressive brake pedal.

Did you get your G clamp back!

Definitely, it was one of a new set!!

Actually it wasn't a 'G' clamp it was a mole grip, but I got so mixed up in the excitement of gaining an MOT certificate!!
