Exhaust 2.6
« on: 18 July 2016, 09:53:07 »

I am in need of the  cats back section for my 2003 CD 2.6. I am thinking I will go with Eternal how do I ensure that I get the correct system.Does it come with a back box. Any ideas would be very helpful. Any idea how long the system is without the back box will I get it in the car to take to a garage to fit?

The entire cat-back system from eternal is about £90 delivered. It includes everything, from the cat flange to the back bumper, includes fittings and is a good buy. Provided you order for the correct body type(saloon or estate) the V6 systems are interchangeable, the only real difference is a single or twin exit back box which is cosmetic.

You'll easily get it in the car.

It's less than an hour's work to fit, on your own, with the car on a pair of axle stands in the street. Assuming you don't have to drill the cat flange bolts, which might add another 15minutes.

Thanks for that Nick I have read that Eternal say they do not make a system for a 2.6 so if I order a 3.0 litre with a single outlet that should be ok.

Order 3.0L for twin outlet,
Order 2.5L for single outlet.

On or even Under would be better.  :y

That do yeah,, will have twin outlets, as it's 3.0L, but otherwise no difference for fitting.

Drilling out the cat section holes is difficult and time consuming. Better by far is to heat the cat section with the bolt threads in with an MAPP torch until it glows red, allow to cool, spray with WD40 or penetrating oil, and carefully unscrew the bolts.

I have had mine for years, marvellous tool. I found drilling out the old screws a rotten job. It's easy to break off the drill bits in the hardened steel, then you're really in trouble. I bought special cobalt drill bits, no better. I cursed Vx for switching from the Senator system of replaceable screws through holes to the Omega threads in the cat section; it made for easy assembly on the line but more difficult replacement.

Ok you sold me the idea terry...I bought one  ;D ;D ;D

I understand that heating the part a bolt is threaded into will make it expand and hopefully now the bolt will come out easier... but why wait for the nut side to go cold  :-\

Not sure, maybe the rusty bond is broken up by the heat. One reason is that any oil sprayed on it just boils off, another is safety. I always apply torque gently at first, perhaps turning it slowly left and right, then spraying on more oil, then gradually progressing as it turns more easily. I have released many seized screws this way, it is most satisfying.

Ironmongers and plumbers merchants sell it, so do bigger Halfords branches. It comes in yellow screw on canisters.
