a car was broken into in our street friday - side window smashed.  has anyone taken steps to lock the boot so that the rear seats cannot be pulled forward and entry gained to the boot after smashing a window?  i'm thinking of a simple bolt lock, set with the boot lid open:

probably 3 or 4 of them.  it might at least slow down theft of boot items.

Really sorry to read this. I'd be dancing round the house in a fury 48 hours later, no mistake if that were me.  any help, give us a shout.


Though I appreciate the idea of the bolt, the ski-hatch/load through facility could be opened, and anyone reach round inside the boot, pull the dead bolt undone anyway. (I know they'd have to know they're there in the first place, but it could be done, is my only thought.)

Just a tought:

Could it be possible to drill holes behind the back seats where the opening buttons of the back seats are and block those buttons to be pressed down by inserting a pin or something into drilled holes? (Simple thing hard to express with my english  )

Usual reason for breaking into a car is to take something on view, but also understand the reason to be vigilant. Perhaps extra security may never be needed..... Mandula's suggestion seems fairly straightforward

Might as well fit deadbolts to the passenger doors whilst you're at it...

standard central clocking system already has that - second press

Please read the manual:

 "Central locking system,
mechanical anti-theft locking system
Locking
All doors must be closed, the driver’s door
must hav e been opened once previously;
press button p on the remote control
again within 10 seconds after lock ing
– or –
turn key in d river's door lock towards rear
of vehicle again within 10 seconds after
locking, then turn it back to the vertical
position and remove.
Lock buttons on all doors are positioned
such that doors cannot be opened.

Do not use the system if there are people
in the vehicle! The d oors cannot be
unloc ked from inside."

I think the question was 'How do you propose to access the boot if the lock fails?'

ie you cant fold the seats down to access the Boot release latch.

Some of the Ex Plod cars Ive come across have had some interesting ways of restricting the rear passenger from accessing the boot (ie, Gun Cabinet), probably the most effective one was when you fold the rear seats down your faced with a steel sheet thats bolted to and blocking access to the boot.

it has been done .. 2008 ... http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=63096 looks like the links to all the photo's no longer work .. and I don't have the originals anymore.

Simply put .. a puppy training/extending lead positioned behind the seat with the lead tied to the manual release pull. If the lock fails, drop the seat and pull the extending lead to open. If interested I'll take some more piccies

I like that idea,saves groping about blind trying to get to internal boot release!
