If breathers are blocked cam cover gaskets blow. I am struggling to clear the small breather on my recently purchased petrol 2.2. It looks like it should be simpler than on the 2.0 'cos there is no coolant ring around it. However I could not get a wire through it, nor even see a hole on the inside. So I removed the throttle assembly from the old 2.2 awaiting the scrapper, and dsicovered there is a hole on the inside.
Must persevere. Also I cannot see how to unplug the cable to the throttle motor. It looks as if I should press down on the grey centre bit, then pull. Should I pull harder?

Solved it. In case anyone else has this problem, following pics will explain all.

Removed throttle box, found small idler hole completely blocked.

Cleaned throttle box, pusged wire through smal;l idler hole.

Investigating whether cam cover gasket was gone, I removed the plug stick. Therews a trace of oil on sticks 3 & 4, so I cleaned up the sticks and changed all the plugs for the Vx000 plugs in the 2.2 awaiting collection by scrappie. He will pay me £35 for the wreck, last year he paid £30 so things are looking up.

That yellow deposit on sticks 1 & 2 puzzles me too.

Me three, it's what they normally look like with water in the plug wells...

When i cleaned mine out,someone had already had a go at sometime and broken that clip..shame they didnt know your screwdriver trick.

Can still be scuttle, car may have been parked nose down in which case the water tends to pool at the no1 plug end

Could it have been grease. I remember it being on my dad 04 astra
