I would like to add my thanks to BM who jumped in immediately to help a stranded OOF member. OOF at its best, well done Ron. I hope he got home alright. :y :y :y

Thanks Shackeng.... All in a days work!  ;D

I was unable to help Paul to get his car 'fixed' but I did what I could to help him diagnose the true fault and hopefully get him on his way.

TB posted a link to a part which may be required @ less than 25% the cost of Vauxhall...... others have offered advice on what the problem may be and ways to fix it.....  That's the spirit of OOF and hopefully, long may it continue.

Excellent news Paul.... Glad you got home without needing the RAC.  Get a belt and hopefully you should be sorted.

Would be interesting to know if the belt has stretched that much though, so keep us informed.   :y :y

Sure is, which includes changing the water pump (not necessary in your case):

And here's the route of said belt:

Sorted.New belt on.Measured against the old one exactly the same so i,ve a spare now.
Problem was the i dler pulley if thats the name for it, at the bottom of the tensioner which pushes against the belt.
When Broomies Mate looked at it he notced this was sort of vibrating/running out of true &its securing bolt wouldn,t tighten up.
On removal it was obvious a PO had stripped the thread & bodged it with ptf tape!!!  New one on & its looking good.
Thanks again everyone for you time & help.
