I don't even come close to filling any of mine.Got into the habit of not having more than half a tank at a time from the days when tanks were metal with a top half and a bottom half welded together with a seam round the middle where a lot of them used to rust through and leak.

Sorry Nick, I was just going by what a load of people are saying on the web about the 'dangers of overfilling your tank' etc... because this is a new car in the family, which was fine until we stopped, filled up, and then the evap light (of which the code had been cleared) came on as soon as I restated the car in the petrol station. Too much of a coincidence, so its either the petrol cap not sealing, causing the issue, or some excess fuel. They (Volvos) seem susceptible to it.

EVAP control solenoid failure is a common issue on the Z28 engine Vectra C / Signum.

Not sure what causes the fail, could be linked to brimming the tank, but the diagnosis is stop, fill with fuel (to any level) and then it takes quite a while to start
