Oooh, i thought that horrible tappety tap was normal... It is a Deeeeesul after all! Like the sound of the valve treatment, though.

I now have an ABS ECU, will soon know if its the right one (we still have to get the car trailered to my mates place) But thanks for all the help that you've all given!

Once again, the free exchange of information has saved much pounds!! Thanks :) :)

Many thanks there 2woody, but the issue is that it has to be from a 98/99 car, '97 at a push(crossover year), as the ABS on a 95 model is a different generation/version. Using yours or any other 'wrong one' would incur a tech2, which the budget just cant run to.

But I really appreciate the offer.  :y

Still looking,.......pretty please?  ;)

Just what I suspected. Cant think where I read it, but thought 4 channel was one of the little improvements on mini-fl. Bugger!!

SOMEONE out there has an old ABS ECU just sat on a shelf, and I want it!! They're a tricky little swine to find, they are.  >:(

Just in case anyone happens to have one, the part number is 0 273 004 205.

In continuation of the ABS ECU saga in the parts for sale/wanted section...

Having already being told my kind oofers that an ABS ECU with same part number can be exchanged, provided its from model with same 'spec' ie Engine, Gearbox, etc I wanted to check that an ABS ECU from a 1995 2.5TD Auto will NOT fit an Omega Elite 1998 2.5TD Auto.

I have a feeling it's a different generation of ABS (5.3, yes?) on a '98 car, to a '95 car; and therefore won't work.

Thanks in advance  :) :)

Omega General Help / Re: Best paint for calipers & discs?
« on: 05 November 2010, 19:57:03 »
Wasn't it me that suggested the OPC blue? I think it was...we thought that we'd try a gaudy colour; the idea being that if you decided it was just too loud, the brake dust would soon tone it down! If you liked it (which you seem to!) then its a quick spray with a hose, and it's all 'blingy' again!

Standard colours are red (just a bit boring now, but personal preference)
Yellow - denoted Ceramic discs on Porsches

Personally I'd look for something that compliments the car colour. Alternatively as you say, something subtle a dark graphite, black or silver. (modern Vx's have 'star' silver calipers. Im not sure about in the days of Omegas, never seen an Omega caliper fresh out of the box, they've always had a tad more 'patina' when I get them!)

Best of luck....may be able to photoshop you a few colour choices, if you provide me with a decent photo. If you ask nicely....  :y

Omega General Help / Re: power sounder going off randomly.
« on: 03 November 2010, 20:28:10 »
Just to confirm, you've spoken about 'the battery', are you referring to the small battery for the alarm, remember the power sounder doesn't get its power directly from the main under-bonnet battery, it only trickle-charges a smaller battery inside the offside wing for the sounder.

Changing the power sounder would do nothing, certainly changing it twice even less!

When the battery gets old (often something like about 10-odd years old) it doesnt charge as well as it used to. When the sounder senses reduced power it reads this as a wire's been cut ie: someone trying to break into me, thus the alarm sounds.

As a cure many remove sounder, best to remove the battery too, as they are known to cause fires (!) Though I personally would favour replacing the battery with another suitable.

It's a common fault, and the drain from using various fans etc. would be consistent with a poor/old battery, causing the sounder to go off. If Vauxhall didnt make you aware of this and just sold you a new sounder, thats just an example of so-called experts being thick. If you know all I've just typed already and I've answered a question you never asked, well that's just an example of me being thick!

Theres a very good how-to on here somewhere.

For ease you may want to just replace the unit. Depends if you fancy a challenge!

Omega General Help / Re: boot badge removal
« on: 01 November 2010, 01:31:57 »
All are stuck on with usual double-sided foam. However there is one, maybe 2 small holes left in the bootlid after you remove the griffin. This normally means a new bagde, potentially expensive respray, or some other means of disguising the holes.

Over to you!   8-)

5668
Hmmm....its all fixable, but do appreciate why you're fancying a change!

I think it's a definite scrapper, but i know a guy with an estate, seeing him in a coupleof days. Will ask him about it, you may be able to get one decent car from two. That said i think its a v6....are you sure we cant tempt you over to the dark side?

Fit a switch with the remote for the lights in the garage and problem solved

Yep! That'll do. I was going to ask how he opens the garage door, actually, but if its a remote garage door, then could easily wire up a light to come on with the door.

How about simply training one of the many polite, clean and cheerful Afghan immigrants you see selling Big Issues to both open the door/turn on the light whenever you arrive home. Perhaps with a simple beep of your horn?

Though maybe not like this system...

in the interests of political correctness and race-relations, I must urge that the man in the clip may not be Afghan by birth.

The trouble is that would mean reversing into a dark garage which is even worse  ;D

Without sounding sarcastic (I know thats what people say when they ARE being sarcastic, but dont want people to THINK so! But honestly I'm not trying to be clever but...) Have you considered a light fitted inside the garage?
