Omega General Help / R28 box removal?
« on: 12 September 2014, 17:18:19 »
Taking the box out of the dti and have the prop off, all bell housing bolts that I can find and will be dropping it out in the morning. Question is is there anything behind the top of the engine bolt wise, I can't feel any but would be surprised if there wasn't !

General Discussion Area / Trigger finger?
« on: 04 September 2014, 18:15:54 »
Well only been on the job for 3 weeks and persistent use of air tools , average 3000 bolts gunned per shift, it appears i have developed" trigger finger" already, 3 fingers on my right hand are locking up and are extremely painful. I've never had any issue before but haven't used tools with this frequency either so it doesn't bode well for a long term career in this area. I've been shifted onto a non power tool job which was nice of them but can't see me being much use long term in a car factory  ::)

Anyone else had this ? is there a way of managing it ?

I'm so sore it's actually amusing, done a few shifts at Jag Land Rover and my body is not used to some of the moves. I must have put in 1000 bolts yesterday. General rule is if you can survive 2 weeks it gets easier :o

I was put on a line with some miserable buggers who didn't want to know but got shifted to a different one yesterday and they are much more welcoming. Back in on a late today and looking forward to a hot bath and bed straight after.

Any tips from seasoned factory workers?  ;D

General Discussion Area / New job
« on: 09 August 2014, 18:36:24 »
Some may recall I was looking for a new direction job wise after 18 yrs supporting people with drug problems, far too stressful! Well I got made redundant this week and have just got a start date in the local Jaguar/land rover factory making the new discovery sport. It's only agency for the first year and then a possible contract. Never worked in a factory before but hopefully it will be ok.

10,000 applicants for 250 jobs and it was a very thorough recruitment process indeed with online psychometric, manual assessment at the factory and a very lengthy interview so quite pleased with myself really :)

General Discussion Area / Redundancy pay, tax free ?
« on: 02 August 2014, 06:36:10 »
looks like i'm being made redundant and i'm due a relatively small dropsy from the firm. I have been informed that it is possible to" role up "my notice pay so that it is paid to me without  tax being taken out and  I take full legal resposibility for any questions HMRC may ask in future, union says this is almost a standard practice in redundancy situations.

My firm claim not to have heard of this and aren't having any of it, despite it having no cost or risk to them in any way ? does this practice exist? it's a real shame as it would make a small figure a medium figure and take quite a bit of pressure off me in the short term  :(

General Car Chat / Barrel part number help pls
« on: 31 July 2014, 19:11:39 »
Need a replacement barrel and key for what turned out to be a zafira ( told it was a mig ) part number on the barrel is 09146299 and, despite there being shed loads of Mk1 zafira sets on the bay, none have this part number, anyone able to check TIS ? for same part/different number type of affair.

I'd be most grateful !
