General Car Chat / Main dealer/ shoddy work
« on: 18 November 2018, 09:58:12 »
The 2.2 I am breaking currently had a brand new engine fitted by a local main dealer which I imagine would have cost a small fortune, I removed the gearbox yesterday and was surprised to see it being attached with a variety of odd bolts, nuts and bolts not even of the right size and worst of all a couple of manky old exhaust studs had been cobbled into it , disgraceful

Omega General Help / Roll pins
« on: 25 August 2018, 17:48:37 »
Need to replace 2 roll pins that hold the manual gearbox rods together but by christ what a pin in the arse it is, seems the hole is 4 ml ( sized with a drill bit) but can't get a 4 ml roll pin into the bloody hole, any specific technique required ? Tried squeezing it with mole grips to no avail

Just back off hols in Lanzarote, all lovely. Arrived home very weary at 3 AM and as approaching the house thought " The wheely bin don't half pong a bit" as I opened the front door and instinctively went for the light switch the realisation hit me that the house was actually  completely rammed with gas, turns out Father in law ( stone deaf ) had kindly brought some milk etc that morning and had inadvertently knocked one of the gas rings on and this had been hissing away in the sealed up house for nigh on 15 hrs :o

Stupidly went in and opened every door and window,  Christ it was potent, BG emergency where round in half an hour or so and after a while the sniffer said it had dissipated enough to go in.

I'll remember to turn off the mains next time, something I've never considered doing before. Won't tell FIL as he'd be distraught  :'(

Free carbon monoxide detector was a bonus  :y

Omega General Help / Power steering loss
« on: 14 April 2018, 16:55:52 »
Posting this on behalf of one of our members Ray who hasn't got internet currently so I will relay any answers back

2002 2.2 dti CDX, power steering is getting heavy at low speed but works as normal at motorway speeds, Power steering fuse is fine apparently as is fluid level

Would this have servotronic ?

I have a set of 4 x 225/55/16 Michelin Primacy 3 tyres on CD alloys, one alloy unservicable due to my frustration with a locking wheel nut key so the drill got broke out

Tyres were fitted as a matched set and have between 5 and 6 mm tread left on them

I'd like £150 , alloys will fetch a few quid back as scrap

Omega General Help / These here DTI pumps
« on: 10 March 2018, 16:06:55 »
Been stripping my dti breaker down today , I bought it as it had cut out and wouldn't restart and I suspected the injection pump was knackered, I expected it to be empty as it wouldn't be pulling fuel through from the tank but it was full of diesel as was the filter housing? does this point to an ok pump and something else was maybe stopping it starting ?

I note from the paperwork it had a cheapo crank sensor fitted a year ago but am not sure the role a crank sensor would play in a diesel not starting

I'm sure there was a site where you could access the exploded diagrams with original part numbers? Anyone got a link to it as I need to find the original part number for a dti catalytic converter
