which one?
« on: 05 September 2010, 22:43:36 »

I'm looking for an Omega for hurtling up and down to France.

I'd prefer a V6, which leaves me with the options of a 2.5, a 2.6, a 3.0 or a 3.2. Fuel is on expenses but I don't want it to be TOO thirsty. I'd also consider a 2.2, but not a 2.0, I don't think the 2.0 is powerful enough for me.

What would our experts recommend?

Automatic is a total must, and I'd like spec, air con and cruise are essential and I have up to a grand (GBP) to spend.

Much appreciate any advice.

Thanks,

Craig

I'll stick to posts here, being as this is the correct place.

Only concern is re Chunnel for LPG.

Does LPG compromose reliability with a V6? I need something that'll perform as solidly as my Citroen has flat out on the Autoroutes. One breakdown could cost me my position so I need to minimise the odds?

LPG not allowed on the chunnel  :(

Reliability not affected at all . I've had mine LPG'd for over 2 years / 26000 miles .... not a problem. In fact the oil when it comes out is far cleaner than when running on petrol.

Theoretically the ignition system must be kept in tip-top condition as LPG is "harder" to ignite than petrol, but normal, regular servicing seems to keep everything running nicely..

Looks like I'll be ruling gas out. Nice thought though!

What sort of economy can I expect from a V6 auto?

Also, facelift or early model?

Apart from different engines, ie 2.5 vs 2.6 are there any other differences?

The later models are slightly bigger and are drive by wire, not THAT much more power due to lower compression.

Any of the V6s if maintained well should be fine, but get one thoroughly checked over by an expert.

They tend to play up gradually rather than leave you stranded

Playing up I can live with, the Citroen plays up.

Auto is really for Paris rush hour, plus I detest changing my own cogs, stirring soup.
