Defender or Disco, or Range Rover classic absolutely. a P38 (after 1995) no way - just about the most unreliable vehicle ever. Just try and find one with fully-functioning suspension and heater controls.

Actually, I well remember an article in "Land Rover Owner", entitled "ten reasons NOT to buy a P38". They're truly shocking to deserve that accolade from a LandRover mag.

agreed,p38 is woeful for having so many issues and the 2.5td is gutless and thirsty in auto form and not much better as a (rare) manual

I sold a 4x4 (grand cherokee) to buy the mig estate for towing and wouldn't go back,I find the mig much more stable.Obviously if you need to tow off road then its a different ballgame

V6 Mitsubishi Gallant, might be front wheel drive, but comfortable, very fast and ultra reliable.....

or a galant vr4,twin turbo and 4wd(I think)

coil pack is a common fail on them as is the injector loom which can break up and switch off an injector

Regarding the lack of heat in the cabin, on a fiesta the heater control valve is electric and situated in the engine bay where the heater pipes enter the bulkhead, they are a very common fail and easily replaced

Been offered a "Sport" model (2.2) manual with the MV6 bits & bobs for silly £`s. (threw the belt). Is it worth grabbing it to break. :-/ Couple of pics

surely worth fixing if its tidy,only a four pot so fairly easy to sort

My car has a fully stamped vauxhall history up to 13/12/2008 by vauxhall and the last one by a local specialist in Dec 2009 at 38068 miles. Im currently on 40910.

Being bored and wondering if all these stamps were genuine i rang up the dealer where the services were undertaken, spoke to a very nice gentleman who told me everything that had been done over the years.

as well as the usual servicing items which were replace every 4000 miles, he saw that they changed the gearbox oil and filter in december 2006 at 24600 miles

He had a few other things done over the years like fuel filter, spark plugs and major service in 2008.

I was planning on getting the ATF changed as i assume it had never been done but now i can breath easy for a few more years years. He even told me how much was spent over the 8 years and it was nearly £3000!!!


I am always suspicious over a stamped service book with no receipts so i can relax now 

if you ask them nicely they may do you a printout of all the history

Reading up on these maps apparently they give it better in gear acceleration than an M5 0-60 is 5.5 seconds and 0-100 is 13 seconds.

that makes it a bloody quick tractor
