Drove it to Nottingham.  Set out with less than an 8th of a tank to do the 80 miles, but being the reformed character I am, made it there without needing to stop for fuel.

Whilst there, DTM and I were giving an interesting "challenge". Afterwards I scoffed his toasted cheesies, and fitted a replacement IAM to the Jaaaggg.

I did have to get fuel to get home though.

Many, many thanks to that DTM fella, I am looking forward to getting some tunes back in the car, and having the Nav working again, not having to rely on a poxy mobile.  But most important, I can now link the phone back into the system.

I kicked off the map update on the way home, and kept prodding it when I got home (it takes just shy of 3hrs, and the infotainment has to be on), and it looked to have completed successfully by the time I got back from fireworks and curry.  It then needs to be off for 20mins to proper reinitialise and cold reboot, so should be ready to go when I go out later (y)

No worries, glad they were of use.

And thanks for you help in removing the neighbours Golf from on top of the wall, following her daughters usual inability to drive, having failed to do the simple things of applying the handbrake properly and leaving it in gear.

Turned up for the MoT and behold, a silver '03 Elite saloon mid way through a shed load of MoT work having recently failed spectacularly on various rear end bits...

Forgot that my new Michelin PS 4's require a bedding in period, as do all new tyres. I'm not against the odd bit of drifting but I prefer it to be induced by me.  ;D ;D
Damp roads, new tyres with silicone based spray coating still present, what could possibly go wrong.  ::)

Well, that could be worse...

Headlight bulb not quite fitted correctly, resulting in wrong beam.

Exhaust blow from Cat/centre join resulting in a lamda of 1.105+.

So clearly it failed, but given the fact that it's done 176k, I am still quite chuffed with that 8)

Its something I shall look back on and chuckle for some time to come....

….and following on from the awareness course earlier in the week, and how many young lasses were on it, and had no clue of the highway code, and no common sense, I am not the slightest bit surprised about how it happened...

Turns out that the car is all ready... except for the rear pad fitting kit ::) Apparently there is still stock in Germany... and yes they did try all the aftermarket ones that claimed to be correct.

Just collected it...

£74 including the MoT and no advisories. 8)

Another point of note, the new Mot is valid until November 12th, the anniversary of the previous one rather than the 4th which is 12 months from the pass date. So it would seem that the 13 month MoT is still possible (provided the new test is within a month of the expiry date).

It was, but had been suggested that there was now no point in presenting early as the validity was reset to new test date :-\

Apparently this is not the case and this remains unchanged ;)

When mine failed this morning, the failure was recorded in the MoT history, but the system showed the expiry as still being 12th November... which presumably means that provided the failure isn't a Dangerous item, the car can be legally* used until it actually expires :-\ Now retested it shows the new MoT to expire 12th November 2019.

* Obviously once aware of a fault, it should be rectified asap regardless of MoT validity.

Tell that to your insurance company if you have a major failure/accident.

One of my friends has recently trained as a driving instructor. She told me she was out with a millennial on his first lesson recently and asked him to pull up close to the kerb. Apparently he gave her a blank look and asked "what's a kerb?" before proceeding to drive into it.  ;D

We're in for an interesting ride when this lot are paying for our pensions, I think. :-\

Replaced the external temp sensor and heater bypass on kitty, the latter being one pig of a job.  Give me an Omega HBV any day!  My hands are now shot to pieces.

Toasty warm cabin now though :y
