General Car Chat / Re: So what have you done to your car today?

Fired up Pierre and reversed it out through the gates onto the drive, ready to call the scrapman to come and collect it.
Then decided to have one last look at the oil leak, leaving aside all previous thinking on the matter, and I had a completely new idea what the problem is
Will find out when I have time over the next few days if Im right or wrong, but it may yet be back on the road.  :D
Just shoot the damn thing already...  :D

The cost of replacing it is a lot more than it was a couple of years ago. ;)
Anyhoo -This is a shortened version,  from the start of the problem it has been spraying oil from somewhere around the cam pulley, over the bulkhead, servo etc.
Obvious choice was camshaft oil seal. That didnt cure it, so new camshaft and another oil seal which still didnt cure it
Today I started it up again and adopted the attitude, it shouldnt be from the camshaft area, so where else could it be coming from ?
After looking as best I could with a torch (its pretty cramped and very oily) I had the thought, that it may well be actually leaking from the crank seal and dripping onto the cambelt. Then getting taken up higher on the belt before getting sprayed out when the belt runs over the cam pulley.
I have a crank seal in the shed, so will pull it apart one last time, fit the seal, and then test my theory.
We shall see.   :)
If it does turn out to be the crank seal I will be happy and pissed off in equal measure.
Pissed off because I should have thought of it a long time ago, but got tunnel vision and didnt stop to think harder about possible causes..  ::)

When you've pulled it apart previously is the timing belt always soaked in oil ?

That Transit is repeatedly described as original, but in the same blurb it has been repainted.

Now I know I can be a bit contrary, but surely, if it has been repainted, then it cannot be original  :-\

Original my ass,no Transit ever left the factory looking that good

I watched the Transit go through, have to say it was restored beautifully but that's a lot of brass.

i was looking at my cars manual & i wanted to know about changing brake fluid & I came across the cam belt renew - 108 k. never ever known high mileage as that before on any vehicle before they warrant changing :y

A lot of the Pug /Citroen diesels are 10 years 150 k miles

Changed Mrs VXL's car - sold the Astra and bought a Volvo V70 D4 SE Lux  :)

D4... Is that a 2ltr Andy?  :-\

Yep 2L 5 cylinder

I've been thinking about getting a P3 XC70 and as my V70 is the 2.4ltr D5, I've dismissed the D3's and D4's as comparatively gutless.  ::)

I wonder though...  :-\  There are of course tax and MPG advantages.  :)

I have the 2.0 four pot 6 speed manual Derv V70, I believe its been remapped as goes very well indeed and shakes 50mpg on a run

overspent but within 5%of the cap. Ferrari say thats worth half a second a lap.
Its outrageous that they get away with this kind of thing. No doubt the other teams will complain, but it will be a mild slap on the wrist "for the sake of the " sport".  >:( >:( >:(
I would love to be proved wrong, but.......

So up to 7.5 million overspend, thats a shit load of upgrades >:(

Could be no 1st world championship IF RedBull did overspend last year. Imagine if the penalty is points from last year, this year and next year were removed.  Meanwhile back on earth….

Well they did and I wonder what the punishment will be ::)

Crankcase ventilation is clean as a whistle. Anyone remind me how to tell if engine is pressurising ?
Im sure I used to know, but cant remember.  ;D

Pull the dipstick with it running and see how much pressure is there

Tried in vain to find the source of the knock from under the o/s/f of the Omega.
Sounds like a balljoint or similar, but apart from the fact they are newish, inspection suggests they are ok. Same with droplinks and T.R.E,s.
The knocking going over any kind of bumps is driving me nuts.  ::)

Finally found a bit of motivation to fit a new cam oil seal to Piere last week. Fired it up and its still sparying oil all over the place.
Should I buy a new cam ? Not sure. I fitted an SKF Speedisleeve over the end a while back which cured things for a while.
Tempted to buy a new cam, another new seal and try again. But if that doesnt cure it wtf will ?  ??? ::)

Top mount or duff shock  ???
