General Car Chat / knicked to order?
« on: 18 January 2017, 17:13:41 »
The alarm went off on the car of a lad at work the other night, he went out to look but couldn't see owt. Tried to reset the alarm but it wouldn't, so went to put the key in the igniton to reset it. Then he realised why the alarm had gone off.
Some theiving lowlife had nicked his bonnet!  ??? ??? ??? ???
The car is a late Defender 90 and if you look in the interweb, it seems they're quite frequently nicked, partly as they're so easy to remove ... they're a 'go-faster' 'power bulge' type that will easily fit on older cars.

Does anyone watch World's Strongest Man? ..... don't give the game away if you know the final result

Watched one of the initial heats tonight ..... I don't aspire to be the size of these blokes, but they're all just HUGE men. Eddie is only 28yr old but weighs 30 stone!  :o :o :o. He holds the world record for a dead lift ....

It can't do you any good long term

General Car Chat / Tyre fitters
« on: 23 August 2016, 22:05:05 »
At great expense, I had 2 tyres fitted to my Merc today. SHE  :o fitted one of the new tyres, placed it on the balancer, spun it up & it told her to fit a 45g & a 30g weight. She then spun it up again and proceeded to fit another packet of them elsewhere on the rim. I intervened & said I wasn't happy with the amount of weights she was going to be fitting. She looked at me blank.  ??? I suggested she moved the rim & tyre relative to each other. She looked at me blank.  ???
She sought help and re-balanced it .... I've not actually looked yet, but when she was fitting the wheel to my car, she said .... I didn't know you could do that!  ??? ???

General Discussion Area / led load resistors
« on: 14 August 2016, 23:19:09 »
My 'new' caravan has led front & side marker lights. My problem with them is that they flash continuously whether the car's lights are on or off. So it's been suggested to me that it's the car's CANbus lamp check & I need to fit  load resistor across them.
My question is ....... what value of resistor am I fitting? Looking on eBay there are loads of 6ohm clicky bu they seem to be for a bigger indicator, whereas I have just 3 little leds - 1 front & 2 side marker each side.

Any suggestion of a resistor size would be most welcome

TIA

General Discussion Area / kids car seats
« on: 11 August 2016, 19:03:38 »
Good God! What a bewildering choice of car seats there are out there. Grandaughter is virtually spilling out of here first rear facing seat, naively I thought that the silvercross base that we already have would have an older child seat that would just clip onto it ......... it appears not. Though Silver Cross do a seat for £650!!!!!  :o :o :o
The search has begun  :-\ .... I want Isofix fitting  :y

General Car Chat / caliper paint
« on: 23 July 2016, 21:13:22 »
What do you all use for painting brake calipers/drums? I painted my Omega's calipers RED, but I want something a little more subtle for my Merc & Smart Roadster. I want a grey/silver finish that looks like OE finish  :y
