Discovered that the heater fan has stopped working in the Desmond  Was fine on Tuesday/Wednesday but dead yesterday/still...

Climate panel produces all the right noises, and heater gets warm, is just that the fan has stopped working

Guessing that the hedgehog has died as the fan does nothing... spins freely by hand and fuses all intact, I would also expect the resistor to get hot if there's any current running through it

That said where's the relay that feeds the hedgehog? Assuming of course that there is one

Just debating whether I really need to pull the glove box to access it.

There's no relay as such. IIRC, it's fed from one of the maxi fuses in the cabin fusebox, so might be worth checking those.

Before pulling the motor, might be worth disconnecting it from the hedgehog and applying 12V to it, just to confirm the motor is OK.

Presumably the fan will only see 12v if the climate panel is set to full speed? If the resistor works...

Not even sure if it works at full chat if hedgehog blown, as its effectively an electronic speed controller with sold state drives (never looked if FET or bipolar).


Worth unplugging fan and shoving 12v on it to prove fan is OK, they do occasionally fail (without seizing)

As everyone else has said, put 12v across blower motor first to check.  I've seen quiet working blower motors pack up just like that!  Had two blower faults on Omegas - one was dead motor, other was dead hedgehog.

It was then only noticed because there was a bit of condensation after popping to the shops...

...mines playing up. Cc doing randome things. Fan speed jumping up and down, temp not responding/giving heat and cold at the same time.

I have the glove box and associated gubbins out, but I don't see how that affects things.

I reset it before getting out of the car tonight. See how it is tomorrow.

Any way to test it? Or do I simply assume that it's toast and get a new one?

Only way I know of is to disconnect both large connectors from speed controller, bridge them, if fan runs controller is donald

Is that the block that all the fan wiring passes through on the way to the resistor

This connector block at the controller. The two large spade connectors need to be bridged

Gotcha
