Speedo Dancing
« on: 21 December 2014, 16:41:20 »

I have a 2003 Omega 2.6 V6 Auto Estate I've been having a few problems with. One has been ongoing and has been answered in the forum before with regard to Engine Management light after replacing the Cat.

The new problem is my Speedo now will not indicate proper speed and dances around like it at a disco. I was told that it is the Gearbox Speedo Sensor by a mechanic but when I approached a seller on eBay he told me "The speedo on the Omega B is driven by the signals from the ABS sensors. Usually when the speedo, cruise, trip computer etc start playing up it is the ECU attached to the ABS pump that is the problem. You need to get it checked out with a diagnostic's scanner and if faulty, repaired or replaced" I am loosing patience with my local garage and hoping someone here can give me some sound advice before I get rid of the car.

First make sure the dash is,correctly seated, give it a good push.
If speedo and the associated lights still be have like a 70's disco then, its 99% the abs ecu.
There are companies that refurb them, or put a wanted ad up. You will need the part number off the ecu.

Any Idea on cost of this as I am seriously considering outing the car as its starting to cost me. One other thing I noticed about the same time is that the lights on Icon no longer illuminates on the dash on either side or headlights.

Almost certainly ABS ecu... about £150-200 to refurbish, or the cluster needing reseating as above, which is free, so try that first ;)

Agree with other posts - abs ecu ;)

But try reseating dashboard first
