Omega General Help / Idler Arm part number?

There doesn't seem to be a part number on my idler arm, only GM12 SRD2. The number could be round the other side. Is this the correct part number 9195731 for my Omega 2.2i 2003 idler arm?

I put this part number in bay and it shows it for a Carlton. I think there might be 2 sizes. 

Phoned Vauxhall and they have just said the part is now obsolete.

Omega General Help / Vauxhall Omega 2.2 Saloon MOT

My Desmond has just failed its MOT and I have a couple of questions about the parts needing to be replaced.

It failed on the N/S and O/F/front Track rod end ball joints. I have 2 new ones that came with the ATP front wishbone control arms from Germany as part of the kit I ordered a way back.
The brand ARE Atec Are these any good?

Is it worth me putting the new front drop links on the car that was also in the kit while I'm under there?

The rear shocks need replacing, are the BILSTEIN b4 Rear Shock Absorbers still recommended and are all the 2.2, 2.6 and 3.2 all the same? Any one know where I can buy 2x new ones in the UK?

General Car Chat / peugeot 207 2008 strange brake problem

My Sons friend wants me to look at her brakes for her. About a week ago she drove the car and found the brake pedal was spongy.

If the brakes are pumped a few times so they go firm the car will do a full journey and the brakes will feel normal. But after going shopping for the return journey the brakes have to be pumped again until firm and then they will be fine for the whole journey back.

Passenger side where the servo is there is a very notable load hiss from inside the car that disappears, once the brakes have been pumped and firm up before a journey. The hiss is not there throughout the journey. I have not had chance to test the car myself yet. 

What do you think the problem is, servo going bad?

Omega General Help / Air con fan question

Just had the air con re-gassed and noticed a change in how the fans are working.

Its a 2.2 2003 with 1 fan in front of the condenser and 1 fan at the back of the radiator. Both fans are running all the time with the air con on and that is normal.

After the re-gas the fan behind the radiator keeps turning on to the highest fan speed and back off again, every few seconds.

I have owned the car for over 4 years and not once did it ever do this. The engine temperature is normal, so its not an over heating problem.

Is this normal and if it is why has it only started to do this now after 4 years?

I need to renew the rear discs. They are the solid disc type on 2.2 2003.

Will any cheap discs do for the back or is it recommended to get a decent brand name?

Omega General Help / Prop shaft gaitor ruber split

2003 manual box. The gator rubber on the prop-shaft that is up behind the heat shield where the handbrake cable runs has a split in it. Whats involved to replace it?

I was thinking about trying to repair it somehow.

Omega General Help / Cam belt tensioner question

Just changed the Cam belt on my Omega 2.2. Set the tensioner  up for a new belt and did a couple of turns clockwise by hand and all still aligned and tensioner on new mark.

I started the engine up to make sure all was good before punting it all back together and it is.

I had the idea to turn the engine by hand one more time just to recheck the tensioner mark and it was to the right of the new mark by 5mm. I adjusted it again and to the new mark as before and started the engine for a brief bit again. Then turned the engine by hand clockwise 2 turns and rechecked and now the arrow is pointing 5mm left of the new mark.

Shouldn't it go back to the new mark each time or is it normal?
