Do you still have the engine ECU, immobiliser and key chips from the old Omega?

Thinking you could swap these into the "new" car and that should give you an ECU on which cruise is activated.

Yes Kevin. I still have ECU and Keychips. Well, what does this immobiliser Unit look like? not sure if i have it now....
It fits under ignition switch, and has an intergral ring that goes around the ignition switch

Then i think i have this thing somewhere. important things and wiring i took before taking car to scrapeyard.

Mine worked straight away. Worth fitting and trying first :y

:) hmmm.... interesting but please explain your circumstances where you just fitted and it worked.

I had a similar nightmare on a Rover Streetwise on which I had changed the head gasket. The engine ran, car would drive, but engine would not idle properly. I eventually discovered that the cam sensor and throttle sensor sockets were identical and mounted side by side, and I had plugged the leads into the wrong sockets. Rotten design I call it.

Come to think of it, on the 2.2 cam sensor and crank sensor connectors are neighbours too. I had not realised the connectors were identical; shame on Opel.

Congratulations to you for tracing the fault. It took me quite a a while.

Terry  ;D After 6 months of checking every single wire with a multi-meter we found nothing. Just One Sunday when the mechanic and i looked at each other and we said "Wait a minute, these 2 sensors don't seem to be connected correctly!" Then we swapped the connections. Indeed we were right.

Obviously after months of checking wires and using diagnostic machines we never found the fault. Everything just seemed right. And it was. Except that cam sensor & Crank sensor situation.

If the Cruise Stalk come from an Omega other than a 2.5TD then it should work, but you may or probably need to activate the Cruise function in the ECU via a Chat with a Tech II diagnostic tool (Dealer / Admins on here).

Edit. If its a Manual you may have to mess with or fit Clutch / Brake Switch as well.

Thanks a ton Zirk! Mine is 2.2 Auto. And yes the scrapped Omega i used to drive was also a 2.2 Auto but not quite identical seeing those smaller missing things ....like the lack of Cruise Control on the better body.

I will remember the Tech 2 diagnostic tool. I know one guy with a MAXIdas OBD2 or something... does that mean it is a Tech2 reader too?

Hi everyone. :)

I have a question here.

My old Omega had Cruise Control operating switch/lever (next to steering wheel) which worked fine when i used to drive it. I scrapped it and kept engine and useful parts including the cruise control switch. Since i put my engine over from my scrapped Omega 2.2 and into a new/better 2.2 Omega Body then i realised that the new body switch/lever was not having Cruise Control buttons/functions on it.

Can i unplug/disconnect the current switch without Cruise Control functionality  and put in my old one with cruise control? Will this work?

You need an OBDII code reader to check what the problem is. Most engine problems will go dormant after a while and the light will go out, so the fact that it has stayed on suggests that there is a fault present. You need to check and rectify the fault and then the light will go out, or can be cleared with a code reader.

Alright. I will consult a guy i know with a reader. It must be something written MAXIDas i think.

Then i give feedback

The most confounding problems are often the simplest of fixes...

Glad you have it sorted :y

You sir were very helpful.  :y You can say that again. The whole time the car was fine. All along... Come to think of it.

Either of the radiator thermoswitches or a failed relay...

There's a guide for testing fan operation :y

THanks Doctor Gollum. Do you know how where i can get this guide. It will be very helpful.

Hi good people

My changed over my engine from my older Omega into a newer engine last year. Good enough the Engine Management Light was on but it eventually went off.

Engine eventually needed an overhaul after knock. And this was properly done by the usual Mechanic also on this forum. and it runs smooth. Problem is...this time after starting car for the very first time after engine overhaul 2 weeks ago,  the Engine Management Light or Engine Block light stayed on and does not go away. i have disconnected battery and reconnected it but this has  not gone away. What to do? does it need a resetting of some sort.

Omega General Help / OMEGA 2.2 - High Temp at Random
« on: 01 May 2017, 18:36:54 »
Hi everyone. :)

Here is a temperature problem  that's been bugging me for a while.

BRIEF BACKGROUND
This problem has been carried over from the previous Omega 2.2 i was driving for past 5 years. It used to have exactly same temp problem described below. I just carried engine into newer identical 2.2 body with less mileage on it. Basically its same old 2.2 engine but different body. :)  Please help.

PROBLEM
The temperature rises on the gauge to somewhere around 95 degrees Celsius. The Big Fan kicks in somewhere around that 95 on FULL SPEED and i hear it in when driving. But sometimes FAN does not kick in on time. Sometimes it kicks in when is 96, 97  And when it does the temperature wants to go higher to 100 degrees and eventually into the RED. If it kicks in late is struggles to kool engine on time and i have to be ready to stop over before any damage is done. This engine has been completely redone and it doesn't use a drop of engine oil at all, runs smooth. It has done this 2 times days apart. I don't want to high temperature to take me back square one. Only this temperature issue is a real thorn. But if i drive slow like a normal human being it does manage to keep temperature under control  albeit the needle dancing around the high ranges 95. 96. and eventually kooling it to around half marker 90 Degrees and even lower say 89.88. if it is cooled down well. Then we start again.

So basically i can drive 3 hours start and stop around town going about my usual daily running up and down and it manages to kool engine down if i just drive a bit slow as i mentioned before.

I wont mention any of my thoughts on this as i don't want to lead anyone.

What could this be?

Hi Everyone. Thought this might help anyone else in similar situation.  :) Feedback on this original starting post - OPEL OMEGA 2.2 WONT START

HOW WE SOLVED IT

Cam Sensor &  Crank Sensor connectors were connected vice versa. We switched connectors back correctly and car started without hesistation. The connectors on these 2 sensors on my Omega are exactly the same with 3 pins and same color orange. Could any color coding have been helpful in this cars design  since they are close to each other? so the whole time they were connected wrongly. We realized this after 6 months ::)

Now back on the road and happy  :)

Thanks guys for all the input

Just another update concerning the Omega that wont start

The coil and the injectors and we also just found out throttle body are all not responding. is it normal for throttle body to just be quiet (no action) after cranking once?

...car has no spark still no spark still.

Mechanic insists he has checked all wiring inside engine bay and all electrical wiring is working.

 :(
