The time has come, I am giving up the Omega after nearly seven years, she has done me proud. She is not pretty (arches need doing, back bumper is the wrong colour) but she polishes up nicely. Ten months test left, and I have just put six months tax on her. A few jobs need doing, like rear bushes, but the fronts are Poly. Asking £300 with the tax (£126.50) for quick sale. There are a few pics on here but will add some later, or I can send them direct to you. She is Nocturno blue, 141,000 miles, & lives in Cleethorpes.
I will miss the old girl, but will stay on this forum, it's helped me out quite a number of times. I recommend it to everyone.

Omega General Help / TD Overheating
« on: 20 May 2014, 21:25:22 »
Never had a cooling problem, but tonight, I saw the temp rising. Stopped, coolant level OK, waited until the temp was about 90 degrees, then set off again. The temp rose again very quickly, and put the warning light on. I stopped & allowed it to cool, then drove home in about twenty stages. Hoses were pressurised, and the level was fine with no leaks. I released the pressure using the cap and the level rose. I did a paperclip test, only code 92 (Cruise Control Device Circuit Open Or Voltage High) which has always been there.
I used to have codes 64 (Fuel Quantity Control Out of Range) and 96 (Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valve Out Of Range)
When the engine had cooled down, I did the paperclip test again, codes 92 & 64 were there, but still no 96, is this relevant?

General Car Chat / Stick with Omega, or change?
« on: 22 April 2014, 20:25:29 »
I keep seeing lovely cars, especially Insignias, and should really change. I do short distances in my 2.5 TD, which only gets me 25mpg. If I get a newer car, I get more to the gallon, cheaper road tax, less time working on & under the car. I know there is very little wrong with mine, but the practical side of me says to swap, an I missing something?

Omega General Help / Ignition key will not turn! Help!
« on: 25 August 2013, 09:24:43 »
OK, never had a problem with this before, but now the key will not turn. Tried the spare key, just the same. I did look in maint guide, but to remove the assembly, I have to "insert the key and rotate it until it is in the I position."  Obviously I can't do this. Any ideas?

General Car Chat / LPG kit up for grabs, is it worth it?
« on: 25 July 2013, 21:26:18 »
A mate of mine is breaking a Mig, with LPG. He says it's not worth stripping out the kit to sell. I would have though there was a great demand for these.  If anyone wants to buy it, I can forward his contact details.

My starter is letting me down, so I either replace it, or re-furb it, anyone done this?

Omega General Help / TD gutless, no kickdown, any ideas?
« on: 03 April 2013, 17:25:54 »
As title really, the tickover was a little slow, so I decided to clean the MAF sensor (carefully), not much dirt in there, so plugged it back in, car runs OK. On driving it, there is a definate loss of power, and no kickdown at ALL. Codes are:-
64, 85, 96, & 92, but all these were present yesterday when the car ran OK.
Anyone got any ideas?

Still require a rear bumper for a facelift saloon, in Nocturno Blue. I can get plenty in the wrong colour, but sooner not get my spraygun out if I can help it.

9
 :(
Due to an unsheduled off-roading expedition, boot lid & back bumper is required, preferred if it's Nocturno Blue of course.

As per the title really, did the Diesel Magic trick, and it won't start. I have flattened the battery trying, and even loosened off some injector unions. Last time I did this, it started & ran OK, slightly lumpy for a few seconds, then fine. This time it started for half a second, the cut out. I have the battery on charge, and will have another go in the morning. Any advice would be helpful.

General Discussion Area / Latest scam?
« on: 26 January 2013, 22:22:15 »
I received this, and wondered if it applied to Omegas. :-

Latest scam...........

I locked my car. As I walked away I heard my car door unlock. I went back and locked my car again three times.
Each time, as soon as I started to walk away, I could hear it unlock again!! Naturally alarmed, I looked around and there were two men sitting in a car next to the store.
They were obviously watching me intently, and there seemed no doubt they were somehow involved in this very weird situation.
I quickly abandoned my errand, jumped into my car and sped away. I went straight to the
police station, told them what had happened, and found out I was part of a new, and very successful, scheme being used to gain entry into parked cars.
Two weeks later, my friend's son had a similar experience....While travelling, he stopped at a motorway service area to use the toilet. When he came out to his car less than 5 minutes later, someone had managed to get into his car and had stolen his mobile phone, laptop computer, sat-nav, briefcase and other belongings.
He called the police and since there were no signs of his car having been broken into, the police told him he had probably been a victim of the latest robbery tactic – there is a device that robbers are using now to clone your security code when you lock your doors on your car using your remote locking device. They sit a distance away and watch for their next victim. They know you are going inside the store, restaurant, or whatever and that they now have a few minutes to steal and  run. The police officer said always to lock your car manually with the key when parking in a public area. That way if there is someone sitting in a car nearby watching for their next victim, it will not be you.
When you lock up with the key upon exiting, it does not send the security code, but if you walk away and use the remote button, it sends the code through the airwaves where it can be easily intercepted by the device. This is very real. Be aware of what you have just read and please pass this information on. Look how many times we all lock our doors with our remote just to be sure we remembered to lock  them --  and bingo, someone has our code...and potentially whatever is in our  car." Please share with everyone you know in the hope that we can frustrate these thieves.

Omega General Help / TD Codes 64 & 96, advice please Gents.
« on: 13 January 2013, 15:36:17 »
As per title really, Paper-clipped the car a couple of days ago, just the one code, 64 (Fuel Quantity Control Out of Range). This code has been there quite a while, & I never bothered doing anything about it. I now have an extra code, 96 (EGR Out Of Range). I am thinking of cleaning the EGR valve, and possibly replacing, unless anyone has any more suggestions.  ::)

Omega General Help / Tractor "Fuel quantity out of range"
« on: 13 December 2012, 23:15:11 »
As title, I had the car on a diagnostic, and it threw up the above fault. I need to know if there is too much fuel, or too little??? There doesn't seem to be a lot of unburned Diesel about. Running OK too. I never had this code show up a month ago (albeit with the paperclip test).

Omega General Help / TD starter motor, easy to change?
« on: 05 December 2012, 19:41:20 »
I need to get my starter off, either to change, or possibly just to clean the terminals. I have never taken a TD one off before, and it looks a right Pig, anyone ever swapped one?    :-\

Omega General Help / 2.5TD, leaking fuel at injector.
« on: 03 July 2012, 15:38:28 »
As above, No 6 injector leaking somewhere at the bottom, tried nipping it up but no different. Rang dealers to see if they had seals, but apparently none listed so they don't need them (anyone remember if they do?) I do have a spare set, so after work tomorrow, I will try replacement of one/all injectors. Not sure why an injector would start leaking. Any thoughts?   ::)
