Omega General Help / Fog light issues
« on: 16 September 2018, 11:37:38 »
Hi all,
My front fog lights are not working, bulbs are good, wires plugged in fuse is good. Switch lights up the dash but no light. Everything else works as expected are there any common issues, or connections mid loom to check or do I have to break out the multimeter?
Thanks
Joe

Omega General Help / Doors locks and solenoids
« on: 27 August 2018, 11:13:46 »
Morning all,
I have acquired a second omega to poach for parts to improve my own.. same colour and trim etc to make life easier...
first on the agenda is replacing the drivers door, door card and hinges not a problem but wondered if It’s as simple as unplug remove and swap, is there anything to consider on the remote central locking/alarm front. I’m assuming the drivers door actuator is the master for the system, does the coded signal come from ecu end it is there anything in the door that would need to be swapped?

While we are on the drivers door what about the lock barrel? Can this be removed and swapped so I don’t end up with a different key to open the door (should central locking fail?)

Still on central locking rear passenger side door solenoid has had it so was going to swap that out as well so I guess same question really straight swap or any trickery involved?

Thanks
Joe.

Omega General Help / Alternator or battery confusion
« on: 04 June 2018, 15:57:53 »
Hi all.
Bit of a strange one, went out yesterday for approx 50milr journey stopped and started three times while the out on the last time clicked like a flat battery after being stopped for less than five minutes. No other signs of battery issues until then. It jumped straight away with no issues and then drove the 50mile trip home without problems. I assumed battery and replaced it with a brand new one. This morning started fine did 20miles to work restarted later for another 10 mike journey then again for a 25mike trip. Again got back in after less than 5 minutes and completely dead. Jumped fine and drove 25 miles back. Now battery completely flat again but will jump first time and drive normally.
I am assuming alternator is putting out charge or I shouldn’t have made any of the trips after jumping but it’s xlearly not charging the battery. So something in the charge circuit?
Battery connection is all good any thoughts on where else to look?

Omega General Help / Suppliers
« on: 13 June 2017, 13:39:17 »
Hi all,
Is there a list of recommended online suppliers?
I need to purchase a few items, and live in the back of beyond, and due to my work location cant make calls during the day. Main stealers are a bit of a hike as well so I historically have done most of my parts purchasing online but this is my first Vauxhall so I am a bit lost for who to go to for what. My local(not really) motorfactors are fine for oils etc. but have never been even close to competitive for parts. Car is a 2002 2.2 petrol CDX.
My current list of needed items if it helps is:

Full engine service kit (maybe oils too?)
Cambelt kit
Waterpump
Gearbox service kit/gaskets (maybe oils too?)
Floor mat holder clip thingys (all of them!)
Spare key fob - (Ebay I guess?)

All help appreciated.
Thanks
Joe

Omega General Help / First issue..
« on: 13 June 2017, 13:10:45 »
Hi all,
I have recently aquired a 2002 2.2 Omega CDX. I have now put 1000 shakedown miles on it relatively trouble free and am about to embark on my first round of servicing etc.
However I have had an issue raise its head 5 times in those 1000 miles and would appreciate some insight from those more knowledgeable.

Occassionally (5 times so far), after stopping briefly and restarting the gearbox appears to go into a limp mode or select a higher gear. Basically lacks guts pulling away and feels like the parking brake is left on or its in top gear, once you build up speed its pretty normal but getting there is slow. A couple of restarts often rectify it, reverse gear seems unnaffected. No noises, light or anything untoward although I am yet to put it on the code reader to see if anything is showing.
Only other thing of note is that when this happens the idle revs seem to drop slightly sitting closer to 450 than a bit over 500 as they normally do, and possibly the teperature sensor is slightly higher (90+ a touch rather than 89/90), I only noticed the temperature today after a brief stop and restart at the petrol station, although the weather is hot and all returned to normal when driving so could have been heat soak or similar?

So my current thoughts are gearbox service, which I had planned anyway along with full engine and cambelt service, but there is a niggle in my mind saying cam shaft sensor. I have no idea why I am thinking that and can only assume its something i have read here then forgotten!

Any further thoughts on things to do or try? I'll do the codes tonight if I can find the code reader.

Now I think about it after seeing the temp guarge today I have rarely, if ever, heard a fan going after stopping the car which given some of my journeys seems a little odd. Should this happen, and if so in what circumstances and how best to test it? I think its possible that something may have been disturbed as it had a new rad the week I collected it due to a snapped hose mounting.

All thoughts and pointers appreciated.

While I have got you, where is the best place to purchase the service kit, cambelt etc.

Thanks
Joe

Omega General Help / New owner questions
« on: 07 June 2017, 17:04:09 »
Hi all,
I am the proud new owner of a 2002 2.2 Auto Omega. It ticked the boxes during an urgent car hunt.. Big, 12months MOT cheap.. goes and stops. I like to look after my cars myself so like any responsible owner came and found the forum... after reading lots over the last couple of days I have a couple of questions if you would be kind enough to point me in the right direction...
Its in better nick than I expected which is a nice surprise but still has a list of jobs I want to do, all of which are raising questions for me as Vauxhall is not a make I have owned before.

First on the list is a full service, cambelt and autobox fluid and filter change, is there a general consensus on where to get parts? If possible I would like to order the whole lot from one place and any consensus on where I should be buying genuine parts and where copies are acceptable? Normally I would go with genuine tensioners and water pump, quality belts, oils and filters etc.
Think I have found suitable guides in the common fixes section for all the above... but any extra pointers appreciated.

Second on my list is getting a spare key.. reading on here am I right in thinking the best route is to buy a blank from Ebay, get it cut locally, and then find a willing member with Tech2 to code it for me? I do have the key code card thingy. While I am on keys, the one I have is looking worn but functioning fine, can I simply buy a new 'outer' for it from ebay and swap the guts over?

Last on my list is tyres, it has four all relatively new, but all different makes and tread patterns. Is there any tyre recommendations or similar, and where is best to get a good deal... local tyre place or online? Ive always gone local but wondered if I was missing a trick!

Thanks
Joe
