Omega General Help / Steering box adjustment
« on: 10 April 2019, 13:16:04 »
Hello!
Couple of different garages have told me that there is excessive play in the steering box and none are willing to adjust it themselves, so I thought of giving a go myself.
I have searched the thread on the topic of steering box adjustment and understand it is a fiddly job. Are there any active OOF members who have actually done it and give me couple of pointers?
I understand the box can only be accessed from underside the car, I had a look from under the bonnet but braking stuff is blocking access?
Can one actually see the adjustment screw when turning it? Should I use a ratchet with a suitable bit? Any info on what size torx fits there (and what spanner size aswell)?

There is an odd sound coming from steering aswell, when turning the wheel side to side I can hear a small knock when changing directions. At first I presumed it to be wishbones, but changing them did not rectify the matter. Previously mentioned 2 garages have not been able to identify any other faulty components. Can this be related to the play in the steering box?

Best regards,
Rainer

Omega General Help / Re: Child Seat Detector
« on: 03 December 2018, 09:19:41 »
Hello!
I had a similar problem with the child seat detector, which turned the airbag light on. I was under the impression, that airbag controller can be programmed only once, so I just got another from a car without this option. I did receive one without the person detection option however, so had to disconnect the big yellow plug under the passenger seat.
The airbag controller lives under the armrest, takes some torx screws to get it out.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Siemens NCDC screen problem

Hello!
Typical problem, needs the ribbon cable connector on the LCD (Sharp model no cant remember) resoldered. You will need a soldering iron with very fine tip, a magnifying glass and very steady hands. It also helps to have multimeter (with very fine prongs) to check if the soldering worked.

Update:
I did a warmup run last week to really dry out the cabin. The weather has also been quite dry recently and I have not seen the screen on again.

As a reply to the info about the OBD2 dongle, I have had that as well. When plugged in, the lights on the dongle never go out and it probably keeps some controller alive as well, draining the battery.

Tried some things.
Without touching the ignition key - just tried switching the radio on-off. Sometimes the screen remained off, sometimes not.
Tried to remove the HU. Then the screen would not turn off at all.
(While doing that, I encountered a weird anomaly with the radio. The volume button and the steering wheel volume buttons turn the sound on and off, no change in volume. In one position the sound is muted, the second it is on. This condition went away when I tried switching sound sources)
Now the screen comes up pretty randomly, I leave the car with the screen off, come back hours later the screen is on again. Once witnessed the screen turning off when I just opened the door.

I am inclined to thinking that the changing of ignition switch will not remedy the matter. I will try to go for a longer drive and heat the cabin up to get all the moisture out.

There is an audible click of some relay, and the screen turns on.
After switching the ignition on-off for some 10 times, the screen remained off. If it was a faulty ignition switch, then I would presume the screen would not switch off at all...

Hello!
No telematics, just normal 2013.
Would this be the right temp sensor?

Hello!
I have this problem, that when I remove the key from the ignition, then a few seconds after the screen (CID) turns off, it will turn on again. It just shows the logo and clock (as when the radio is turned off). This also happens when I just turn off the radio (without key in the ignition), just turns the screen on again.
Can this be a problem with the ignition switch?
Another question related to the screen - the outside temp is about 5...8 degrees off, shows colder than it is. Does the screen take its temp reading from the sensor under the bumper?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Courtesy light problem
« on: 28 April 2016, 09:00:17 »
After checking the light switch (took it apart, made sure that it was mechanically ok, the pulling of the switch switches the rear cigarette socket) and knowing that the light unit itself was fine, I gave up on the matter. I had an idea that I will just install a manual switch on the light unit itself one day.
Completely different matter occurred a week or so ago - one of the rear central locking motor was acting up, sometimes it worked and mostly not. So I bought a generic actuator for it and installed that yesterday. After arriving home the evening and opening the door - behold, the light is working!
Seems that the CL module somehow detected the problem with the door lock and prevented the light from coming on altogether.

Tried another switch, nothing changed.
Took the old switch apart (and the new), the pulling of the headlight selector connects two leads together. There is electrical connection from these leads to some other components as well - dont know if that is important...

The maps lights work (ignition on), the courtesy light does not, regardless of door unlocking or opening or pulling the switch on the headlight selector. Actually all other lights work as usual - puddle, boot, glove compartment, rear courtesy lights.
Will try to lend a headlight switch from someone (does the 0V go through the switch regardless if the door is open or unlocked?)

Do you mean the headlights switch, no other switches to activate the light...

It seems, that I made a wrong assumtion in the first post - it was not the wire next to +12V to the bulbs I shorted but the wire next the 0 for the bulbs, which incidentally is the common ground wire for all other gubbins in the assembly. This concurs with the information, that the light is controlled via cutting the 0V and also that the fuse is fine.
Looks like there is a deeper problem in the system - ATWS/CL does not work right. It is probably not likely, that the ATWS/CL ECU is accessible with "My Naff Code Reader" china clone? Is there maybe a +12V somewhere when a door is open so I can bodge a separate relay for it?

I appreciate the schematics, but to be honest I can hardly decipher the symbols but not the letters and numbers.

The fuse looked fine, replaced it anyway. Radio clock went reset, no change to the light.
Does anybody have a pinout for the light unit, I might come up with a bodge then.
