Cheers guessed that was probably the case with the switch. Now just have to find my multimeter!

Omega General Help / Fog light issues
« on: 16 September 2018, 11:37:38 »
Hi all,
My front fog lights are not working, bulbs are good, wires plugged in fuse is good. Switch lights up the dash but no light. Everything else works as expected are there any common issues, or connections mid loom to check or do I have to break out the multimeter?
Thanks
Joe

Omega General Help / Re: Doors locks and solenoids

Cheers yep that’ll help with the strip down.

Looking at the workshop manual looks like I can remove the lock barrel to prevent having a odd key when I change the doors over.

Any thoughts if I have to keep the central locking solenoid for the remote to keep working or will the one in the spare door work?

Any other issues with changing the lock/handle over, I’m sure I read somewhere that there’s a sensor or something for the immobiliser??

Omega General Help / Doors locks and solenoids

Morning all,
I have acquired a second omega to poach for parts to improve my own.. same colour and trim etc to make life easier...
first on the agenda is replacing the drivers door, door card and hinges not a problem but wondered if It’s as simple as unplug remove and swap, is there anything to consider on the remote central locking/alarm front. I’m assuming the drivers door actuator is the master for the system, does the coded signal come from ecu end it is there anything in the door that would need to be swapped?

While we are on the drivers door what about the lock barrel? Can this be removed and swapped so I don’t end up with a different key to open the door (should central locking fail?)

Still on central locking rear passenger side door solenoid has had it so was going to swap that out as well so I guess same question really straight swap or any trickery involved?

Thanks
Joe.

Omega General Help / Re: Alternator or battery confusion
« on: 06 June 2018, 11:59:50 »
Like I said I’m not convinced the voltage drop to 0.4 was anything other than the multimeter, so pretty much disregarding that for now. The voltage output from the alternator was still low at barely over 12v regardless of load or revs. Double checked the questionable multimeter on a known good car (my dads brand new Mazda) and readings for that were 14+ volts as expected with a decent alternator.
So still settled on alternator shagged but won’t hear back from the repair place till next week now. Not ruling out anything additional but I’ll be chasing my tail lookin for anytelse with a dodgy alternator.

Like a good boy I didn’t use works internet but finally got the multi meter on it tonight battery ok. Alternator reading 12.1 - 12.3 regardless of revs and measured direct off terminals at back of alternator. During test volts dropped to 0.4 twice not unconvinced that wasn’t the multimeter but either way suspect alternator so it’s now off and will get dropped into the local test and refurb place tomorrow.

Cheers all,
Yes multi meter would be a wise move but I’m at work racking my brains without one
Guess some diagnosis tonight when I get home

Thanks I’ll add that to the list of things to check although I can’t think of anything that would drain it on less than five minutes...although I guess it could be draining all day and just got low enough after that particular stop. But would it still drive fine for a prolonged period?

Omega General Help / Alternator or battery confusion
« on: 04 June 2018, 15:57:53 »
Hi all.
Bit of a strange one, went out yesterday for approx 50milr journey stopped and started three times while the out on the last time clicked like a flat battery after being stopped for less than five minutes. No other signs of battery issues until then. It jumped straight away with no issues and then drove the 50mile trip home without problems. I assumed battery and replaced it with a brand new one. This morning started fine did 20miles to work restarted later for another 10 mike journey then again for a 25mike trip. Again got back in after less than 5 minutes and completely dead. Jumped fine and drove 25 miles back. Now battery completely flat again but will jump first time and drive normally.
I am assuming alternator is putting out charge or I shouldn’t have made any of the trips after jumping but it’s xlearly not charging the battery. So something in the charge circuit?
Battery connection is all good any thoughts on where else to look?

My gut says I dont need a DVD, owned a 1.8T Rover K Series and did the cambelt/headgasket more times than I care to remember and guessing this isnt too far different in comparison. That said happy to spend the pennies to support the site etc.

Cheers all,
Well I was being paranoid about the fan, your right just not noisy!
I have no codes showing but do now have the code reader in the car so I can read it during the fault if and when it happens again. Although I am fairly sure now its the cam shaft sensor.
Full on shopping for parts for my service etc now, and believe I have managed to find a genuine sensor for £20 so that will get done at the same time.

I believe from my research the genuine sensors were made by Siemens... using the Siemens part number rather than the GM/Vauxhall one found me many more options at some friendlier prices!

Will let you all know how it goes after the service.

Brilliant thanks, I will send you a PM once I have the new fobs sorted.. becoming slightly more important now as my current fob has just died.. on examination it has a broken solder on one button (unlock) and the boot release button essentially appears to have melted and become completely detached!

I have the car pass thing I believe, assuming its the dot matrix printed info card in my handbook.
